Job description

Violence Intervention Project Worker - LLR
Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate, proactive, and credible individual to work within a project aimed at tackling violence and knife crime among young people in Leicestershire.

Based at Euston Street Police Custody Suite and Leicester Royal Infirmary, and run by Turning Point, this project will intervene and engage with young people who come into hospital with injuries caused by knife crime or related violence. You will engage with these vulnerable young people at a critical moment to make a difference and support them in moving away from violence towards safer, healthier, and more productive lives. You must demonstrate empathy and the ability to connect with individuals at their lowest ebb, building strong, trusting relationships that facilitate access to ongoing support. You will provide mentoring beyond the hospital stay, linking young people to other agencies for long-term support.

Role Responsibilities

The role will be based at Euston Street Police Custody Suite and Leicester Royal Infirmary, with potential requirements to work across other University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust sites. You will also conduct outreach, meeting young people after hospital discharge across Leicestershire County, Leicester City, and Rutland County. Flexibility and willingness to travel across the county are essential. The project will have a presence in hospitals between 9 am and 10 pm, 7 days a week. Shift work, including weekends and flexible hours, is a core requirement.

If you are described as level-headed, a good listener, compassionate, patient, a great communicator, resilient, dedicated, and capable of handling crises— with the energy and commitment to support young people effectively— we want to hear from you. We are especially interested in applicants with previous involvement in the criminal justice system or lived experience relevant to the challenges faced by these young people, to serve as credible role models.

A driving license and access to a vehicle are desirable, but flexibility to travel across the county is mandatory.
