Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Violence and Aggression Reduction Training team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Based at our hospital in Dewsbury, the successful candidate will be an experienced trainer responsible for delivering accredited Violence and Aggression Reduction training programmes in personal safety to ensure the organisation meets its statutory obligations. If you have the expertise and passion for this essential role, we welcome your application. This is a full-time position with 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide the workforce with specialist advice on personal safety and managing violence and aggression in the workplace. Responsibilities include delivering a range of physical intervention and breakaway courses to clinical and non-clinical staff, planning classes, delivering engaging training sessions using various learning approaches, and maintaining records for ESR. The post holder will also develop courses based on feedback, audits, and evolving trends, legislation, and guidance from external bodies like HSE/CQC and internal organisational standards.

Job responsibilities
  • Uphold professional standards in managing violence and aggression reduction.
  • Develop and maintain links with other departments and organisations involved in personal safety training.
  • Attend meetings to advise on personal safety and workplace violence management.
  • Utilise effective verbal and communication skills tailored to trainees’ learning styles.
  • Communicate and influence at all organisational levels.
  • Deliver excellent presentations.
  • Assist the Lead Trainer in engaging managers and overcoming barriers to staff training attendance.
  • Support the development of VART action plans with complex and sensitive patient and incident information.
  • Deputise for the Lead Trainer when required.
  • Support the development of the VART project.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for trainee queries.
