Village Porters at St Monica Trust

Village Porters undertake a valuable and varied role. They ensure the safety of residents, staff, and visitors, respond to incidents and emergencies, and contribute to the smooth running of our service.

They are typically the first point of contact at our sites—greeting visitors, managing entry, and conducting reassurance patrols. Known for their knowledge of our services, buildings, and events, residents and staff alike recognize and appreciate their efforts. As one resident described, “they do the things that happen behind the scenes and can turn their hands to anything…”

Salary and Working Hours

£12.43 per hour, plus enhancements of £1 per hour on night and weekend shifts. The role involves working 8-hour shifts, totaling 40 hours a week, on a 6-week rolling rota, with shifts from 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm, and 10pm to 6am.

Role Responsibilities
  • Managing access to the site and responding to incidents, fire alarms, and reassurance patrols.
  • Monitoring CCTV and handling phone calls.
  • Maintaining clear communication and acting promptly in emergencies.
  • Providing excellent customer service with a personable and alert attitude.
  • Understanding older people's needs and possessing practical skills relevant to the role.

Additional Information

Salary Range: £25,854.40 - £27,393.60
