Job description

We're looking for someone with great video skills and a passion for news to create compelling video content for WalesOnline. You’ll play a huge part in the WalesOnline newsroom, joining a video team to create compelling original video content that keeps audiences coming back.

This is an office based role working 3 days per week from our Wales hub. The role will require weekend work and potentially flexible hours during the week, this will be discussed at the interview stage.

About us

Hello, we’re Reach. Every day, our trusted news, stories and content connect with millions of people where they live - whether that’s on their social feed or at their neighbourhood newsstand; through their local community or their take on the hot topic of the day.

We're home to more than 120 trusted brands - from household names like the Daily Record, Mirror, Express and Daily Star, to local titles like GlasgowLive, BelfastLive, and the Manchester Evening News, and brands making a splash in the US like the Irish Star.

It's our ability to understand people and the things that matter to them that makes us the UK and Ireland's largest commercial news publisher. We reach 70% of the UK's online population and speak to over 100 million social followers around the world. And we’re just getting started…

Your story, with Reach

As a modern media organisation, we're much more than just news. And it takes a wide range of people and skills to serve diverse audiences, customers and communities like we do.

We know everyone has their own story to tell, so we’ve built an environment where every background is respected and every day is a day to explore.

We’ll help you build a career that works with your life, while giving you the space to create and grow.

Job Description

You will create compelling and engaging video content across YouTube, our website and social platforms, from mini-documentaries, to podcasts and short-form series. You’ll bring fresh, original ideas, confidently pitch daily and use your editorial creativity to capture audiences in a fast-paced environment..

This role will involve producing, capturing, editing and supporting distribution, working with both other video specialists as well as by yourself. You will help to ensure video content is optimised to drive engagement and audience growth, using analytical tools, competitor analysis and platform trends to inform editorial and creative decisions.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for:

  • A track record of working in a breaking news environment and a strong understanding and practical application of media law would be ideal. But we're also willing to consider applications from people with strong video skills and a passion for great content who are willing to learn.
  • Capable of shooting high-quality video on both phones and DSLR cameras for multi-platform distribution.
  • Highly skilled in Premiere Pro or similar editing software with a sharp eye for how to craft a compelling edit.
  • Advanced knowledge of what style of video drives engagement on social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube (Shorts and Long-form) and X.
  • Confident and comfortable presenting on camera and recording voiceovers.
  • The ability to commission and shape original content to meet relevant video KPIs.
  • The ability to write creative treatments for stories ahead of commission to suit multi-platform needs and lead production in the field
  • A keen analytical mind that is constantly looking at high-performing video content both internally and externally to help shape strategy and content decisions.
  • An NCTJ or BJTC qualification is highly desirable.
