Job Description:

Ashton Recruitment require a Victims' Payments Scheme for Permanent Disablement Advice Worker, for our client Relatives for Justice. This is funded by Victims & Survivors Services.

Position: Victims' Payments Scheme for Permanent Disablement Advice Worker
Location: Belfast
Duration: Permanent
Pay Rate: £33,336 per annum
Hours of work: 37 hours per week

Relatives for Justice seek suitably qualified persons to apply for the position of Victims' Payments Scheme for Permanent Disablement Advice Worker. Successful applicants will be expected to work between offices and outreach centres in Belfast, Dungannon and Zulauf and further afield as required. Post holders will support potential applicants to the payment scheme for the injured in making applications to the scheme, including assisting with recovery of relevant documentation.

Duties will include:

  1. To provide information and advice on the scheme for injured of the conflict.
  2. Maintain an ongoing caseload associated with the position.
  3. Maximise applicant's income.
  4. Make home visits in appropriate cases to the homes of persons seeking to make an application.
  5. Provide applicants with representation to the Payment's Board.
  6. Research and collate supporting evidence of conflict harm and injury on behalf of applicants.
  7. Mediation and negotiation with appropriate agencies in the preparation and presentation of applications and appeals.
  8. Participation in regular training programmes.
  9. Provide regular reports on applicant representation for the Deputy Director.
  10. Attend and participate in team meetings.
  11. Attend monthly supervision with the Deputy Director and receive monthly off-line supervision.
  12. Promote and develop partnership working to increase the efficiency of advice services to members of Relatives for Justice.
  13. Be responsible for the dynamic recording, collation and provision of statistical data and reports through outcome-based monitoring and evaluation systems.
  14. Meet or exceed all outcomes set for the project by due dates.
  15. Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Relevant Third Level Degree and/or minimum three years paid employment working with victims and survivors in advocacy work.
  2. Awareness and understanding of how rights to reparations and advice issues impact the victims and survivors of conflict.
  3. Excellent understanding of the nature of conflict harms and physical and psychological injury, conflict trauma and its impact.
  4. Experience of collating archive materials and evidence on behalf of victims and survivors.
  5. Experience of giving advice on reparative schemes available to victims and survivors.
  6. The ability to interpret and explain clearly relevant legislation in meaningful ways.
  7. Working experience of computer programmes e.g., Word and Excel.
  8. At least two years' experience of working with victims and survivors of conflict in paid or unpaid capacity.
  9. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
  10. Ability to prepare high quality reviews and reports.
  11. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  12. A demonstrated commitment to human rights and the core values and work of Relatives for Justice.
  13. A driver's license and access to own transport can demonstrate ability to fulfil demands of the post.
