Job Description

About Hereward College

Hereward College is a further education college like no other, passionate about improving life opportunities for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our provision is delivered across a range of course areas, including Art & Design, Creative Media, Sport, Business Studies, ICT, Hospitality, Performing Arts & Music, English and Maths. This provision ranges from Pre-Entry Level to Level 3.

Our learners are supported by a dedicated team of 230 staff, many of whom deliver education, training, care and specific therapies. Whilst our learners may have a physical disability, a communication disorder or other learning difficulties, the one thing they will all have in common is a personal ambition to live a happy, independent and successful life. Through the dedication and passion of our staff, we can help our learners realise their ambitions by achieving some wonderful outcomes with our young people.

About the role

To ensure that we can continue to deliver high-quality, individualised provision for our learners, and support for their families, we need to ensure that we maintain our outstanding financial health (Department for Education official rating).

We now seek to appoint a qualified and meticulous finance professional to join our small, collegiate senior leadership team and lead our financial and resource functions and the finances of our subsidiary.

Reporting directly to our Principal & CEO, Paul Cook MBE, you will be accountable for maintaining our financial health, whilst having additional strategic responsibility for our management information, data protection & GDPR Compliance, HR, accommodation and audit.

Alongside these responsibilities, you will manage four direct reports across the financial and resourcing functions of the College as well as leading a wider team of around 10 staff to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the college.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced and qualified finance professional who can share our values, ethos, and passion for working with our learners as a team. Our new financial leader will need to be an open, approachable, and confident communicator who is positive and willing to engage with our learners daily.

You will be able to build relationships with ease, supporting the positive atmosphere we have within the College and working with our local and national stakeholders, as we look to identify new funding opportunities and build mutually beneficial partnerships that can be sustained into the future.

Whilst further education experience isn’t essential, an understanding of our financial climate, funding mechanisms and related income streams will be of great benefit to ensure a smooth transition if you were to join us.
