Job description

American Recruiters is searching for an experienced financial leader with a minimum of 10 years of Accounting experience. Our client is in the Southern California area, Los Angeles County, and must be in the office.

The VP of Finance will be a crucial member of the leadership team, reporting to the company President and having a dotted-line reporting relationship to our parent company. The VP of Finance will be the key finance lead responsible for providing the overall financial direction of the business through analysis, insights, and a proactive management approach.

A successful candidate will be confident and assertive, able to interact with or lead cross-functional teams, and able to provide a strong voice for the finance and accounting function.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the accounting and finance department functions, including the monthly close process and day-to-day management of activities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the financial statements and key operating metrics and report results to the parent company in a timely manner.
  • Perform detailed analysis of financial results and provide concise feedback to leadership to support continuous improvement of future business results.
  • Responsible for developing the company’s annual business plan and updated forecasts during the financial year.
  • Manage treasury activities with a focus on optimizing the business's cash flow.
  • As necessary, manage the annual audit, legal matters, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare an analysis to support capital expenditure decision-making.
  • Foster an environment of strong internal controls and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Partner with the company President and leaders of each department to support critical business decisions.
  • Together with the company president, lead monthly business reviews held by parent company advisors.
  • Lead and develop accounting team personnel.
  • Support other departments, including sales, operations, HR, engineering, and IT.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • CPA and/or MBA a plus.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience working in a manufacturing company environment, including cost accounting experience, or at a CPA firm focusing on manufacturing and distribution.

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:

  • Strong moral and ethical compass.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and ability to use, analyze, and solve moderately complex accounting problems.
  • Understanding of cost accounting processes and terminology.
  • Technical ability to think outside an ERP system and perform ad hoc financial or operational modeling when necessary.
  • Punctual and detail-oriented. Must have an intense curiosity to identify areas of weakness and take initiative to drive improvement.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize your work to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Unflappable under pressure and confident in making decisions.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills, with advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Experienced with ERP systems, within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP implementations is a plus.
