Vice President - HSBC Infrastructure Finance

The HSBC Infrastructure Finance group (HIF), comprised of Infrastructure Finance and Export Finance, provides a full suite of financing solutions to corporates and financial sponsors in the sub sectors of Infrastructure (airports, roads, ports, rail, PPP, digital infra, core plus), Telecoms, Logistics, Support Services, Power & Utilities & Renewables (PURE) and Commodities (Metals & Mining, selected Oil & Gas). The team provides a central point for clients to access product agnostic advice on financing, capital structure and structured debt capital markets, as well as execution of infrastructure, project and export finance lending mandates. HIF consists of over 160 employees located in 14 countries with key hubs in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York.

The Portfolio and Asset Management (PAM) team within HIF is responsible for managing the HIF back book. Key responsibilities include overall risk monitoring and management of Infrastructure and Export (Export Credit Agency backed) Finance transactions, annual/quarterly reviews of transactions, management and regulatory reporting, review and analysis of covenant waivers and amendments, management of problem transactions/restructurings, identifying and supporting RWA reduction through secondary sales and other initiatives. The team in London is responsible for the EMEA portfolio of loans booked across UK, Europe and MENAT region.

The new Vice-President will be expected to manage a portfolio of Infrastructure and Export Finance transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the performance of the allocated portfolio, comprised of Infrastructure Finance and Export Finance assets, in a proactive manner.
  • Support Regional PAM Lead in managing HIF's back book of assets.
  • Identify and manage emerging risks in the portfolio. Recommend inclusion of transactions in the Watch Worry Monitor lists and present updates at periodic WWM Committee meetings.
  • Undertake annual/periodic credit reviews of transactions and review customer risk rating (PD) and loss given default (LGD) at each review.
  • Monitor environmental and sustainability performance of transactions in the portfolio against Equator Principles and HSBC policies.
  • Monitor covenant compliance, using HSBC systems/tools and provide monthly/periodic reporting on covenant status.
  • Undertake any restructuring work that may be required for the assets, liaising, as necessary, with the originating Deal Director/Team and Special Credit Unit.
  • Review, analyse and manage waivers and amendments, referring to the regional PAM Lead, Capital Allocation Committee (CAC) and Credit, as necessary.
  • Present waivers and amendments before any CAC committees and respond to Credit queries, to support recommended course of action.
  • Review legal documentation associated with waivers and amendments, escalating to Legal departments as necessary and coordinating with external legal counsels.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for RWA optimization through asset sales and data quality fixes.
  • Work closely with Global Structured Syndicate Desk on secondary sale of assets, joining any discussions with potential investors on the specifics of assets being considered for sale.
  • Liaise with Export Credit Agencies, Facility Agents, Legal Advisors, Technical and other advisors as required, as part of deal management.
  • Prepare regular or ad hoc management reports on the portfolio.
  • Support and/or lead internal HIF projects/initiatives.

Skills and Experience Required
  • Strong credit and portfolio management skills.
  • Experience of working on Infrastructure Finance transactions and structures.
  • Understanding of project finance financial models.
  • Ability to navigate complex legal documents.
  • Understanding of environmental and sustainability risks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Some understanding of ECA financing structures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and external counterparties.
  • High levels of motivation and strong work ethic underpinned by an interest for the sector and willingness to learn and develop further expertise.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate across different HSBC departments/stakeholders both regionally and globally.
