Overview of the Department/Section

The Core Compliance department at MUFG plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the investment bank. It is responsible for ensuring that the firm operates within the framework of applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

MUFG is currently in search of a seasoned Data Governance expert to manage daily operations of the Data Governance framework within Core Compliance. This pivotal role is essential in ensuring the department upholds effective controls and maintains a high standards of data quality.

Main Purpose of the Role

In this role you will:

  • Manage the Data Governance BAU
Key Activities
  • Ensuring the Data Governance framework is in line with policies and procedures
  • KDE and Dataflow management
  • Data Quality monitoring and MI
  • Data Change Management
  • Implementation and maintenance of manual controls
  • Support the project team to mature the Data Governance framework
Key Responsibilities

Specifically, you will be accountable and responsible for taking appropriate action relating to Data Governance with respect to the Company’s and Core Compliance, including:

BAU
  • Accountable for acting as a centralised point of contact for Core Compliance for any questions relating to Data. Supporting the Core Compliance Data Steward.
  • Responsible for maintaining the departments data policies, standards, and procedures. Understand the data flows into Core Compliance systems from source including the controls in place. Documents and escalate gaps. Collaborating with other data governance teams locally and other regions to ensure the department is following best practices.
  • Responsible for the Core Compliance Data Issue management process. Co-ordinate and create material for regular meeting and seek solutions for open issues. Escalate to management where required
  • Contribute and leading coordinating and facilitating data governance activities and forums. Create data quality metrics, dashboards, and reports where required.
  • Overseeing the department’s EUCs ensuring that they adhere to the regional policy. Support the attestation process
  • Accountable or supporting the data in key Core Compliance systems including surveillance platforms. Ensure daily checks are in place; trouble shoot issues, and introduce tools to track performance. Liaise and partner with technology on seek robust solutions.
  • Proactively identify gaps in current BAU activities and implement controls and improvements.
Change
  • Accountable for supporting incorporating any policies into productions, completing documentation and supporting testing.
  • Responsible for contributing to maturing the framework.
Relationship with other Functions and Stakeholders
  • Maintain and enhance good working relationships with stakeholders, across the region and globally to share best practices, provide support and seek opportunities for collaboration.
Skills and Experience
  • Postgraduate degree with further professional qualification an advantage.
  • 7+ years’ experience in Data Governance leading international financial service institution(s).
  • Experience driving change and improvements to Data Governance frameworks
  • Full understanding of the front to back Data Governance framework
  • Experience of Compliance surveillance platforms advantageous but not a requirement
  • Strong people management experience.
  • Extensive experience executing and managing Data Governance frameworks including Issue investigation and management, Change management and MI creation
  • Full understanding of the Data Governance framework
  • Understanding and experience of using Data Governance tools including automation tools and Business analytic tools
  • Deep understanding of ever-evolving governance and regulatory environments as well as industry and compliance risk-related best practices.
  • Proven ability to identify inefficiencies and improve processes and controls.
  • Prior experience in a task oriented team working to multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
