Job description

Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire

Position: VI Specialist Support Assistant
Rate of Pay: GBP85 – GBP100 per day
Contract Type: Full-time
Duration: For the rest of the year (dependent on extensions based on performance)
Role Overview:

We are seeking compassionate VI Specialist Support Assistants to support Early Years pupils with visual impairments. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to create a nurturing and accessible learning environment, ensuring all students can thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide one-on-one support to students with visual impairments in classroom settings.
  2. Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to accommodate individual needs.
  3. Support students during lessons, encouraging participation and engagement.
  4. Collaborate with teachers to develop Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
  5. Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to educators and parents.
  6. Help facilitate safe mobility within the school environment.
  7. Foster positive relationships with students, promoting confidence and independence.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children with visual impairments or additional needs (preferably in a school setting).
  • Understanding of visual impairment strategies and assistive technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, empathetic approach and a genuine passion for supporting students.
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable.
