Job description

Veterinary Surgeon – Surgical Focus | Up to £65,000 DOE | Bath | No OOH | Flexible Hours

GVC is proud to be assisting a well-established and growing veterinary clinic in Bath with their search for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity for a vet with a surgical bias who is ready to take the next step in their career within a friendly, progressive, and independent-minded practice.

The Role

This position is ideal for a veterinary surgeon with a minimum of 4 years' experience in small animal practice and a strong interest in surgery. The successful candidate will be confident in first-opinion consulting, medicine, and soft tissue procedures such as caesareans, splenectomies, cystotomies, and abdominal surgeries. An interest in imaging would be beneficial, and support for development in orthopaedics is available if desired.

The clinic encourages team members to contribute to its continued growth and success, whether through pursuing certificates, mentoring junior team members, or helping shape clinical standards. Applicants willing to act as a VetGDP Advisor are especially welcomed.

The Practice

This independently run clinic currently operates across two sites, with a third purpose-built facility under construction. All locations are equipped with:

Digital x-ray and dental x-ray

Ultrasound and full in-house laboratory

Separate dog and cat wards

Fully equipped surgical theatres, including laparotomy kits at the new site

The team is composed of five FTE vets, experienced RVNs (including nurse trainers), student nurses, a patient care assistant, and an efficient reception team. The practice is known for its warm, inclusive culture and high clinical standards.

The Offer

Salary up to £65,000 (FTE), depending on experience

6.6 weeks of holiday, including bank holidays

Enhanced sick pay

No out-of-hours or on-call responsibilities

Flexible working patterns considered

15-minute consults with scheduled breaks throughout the day

£1,000 CPD allowance and 5 paid CPD days

Fully funded certificate support available

Paid RCVS, BVA, and VDS memberships

Candidate Requirements

Minimum of 4 years' clinical experience in UK small animal practice

Strong soft tissue surgical skills (orthopaedic experience a plus, but not required)

Passionate about clinical excellence and collaborative team culture

Interest in mentoring or leadership is highly desirable
