Job description

Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal | Full-Time

We are working on behalf of a thriving small animal practice in the Greater London/Hertfordshire area to recruit a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to take charge of a well-established team and help shape the future direction of the clinic.

The Role

  • Full-time, 4-day working week (8:30am–7:30pm)
  • 1 in 3 Saturdays (8:30am–4:00pm)
  • 1 in 12 Sundays at a nearby hospital site (8:30am–6:30pm)
  • Competitive salary up to £73,000 DOE

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced vet with a passion for clinical excellence and team development. You’ll oversee a close-knit team of 2 vets, RVNs, and client care assistants. You’ll be supported by senior leadership and a Clinical Director and will have protected time each week for admin and leadership responsibilities.

The Practice

This modern, well-equipped branch clinic features:

  • Digital radiography and ultrasound
  • Three consult rooms and a dedicated operating theatre
  • Excellent nursing support and a loyal client base
  • Parking on-site and strong transport links

More complex cases and out-of-hours support are managed through a nearby hospital site, where you’ll also be part of a light weekend rota.

The Candidate

  • Previous experience in a senior/lead vet role is preferred
  • Comfortable with routine surgeries and case management
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
  • Business awareness and a good understanding of clinical operations
  • A GDP advisor qualification (or willingness to train) is desirable
  • AHC certification ability is beneficial but not essential
