Job description

Maternity Cover Veterinary Surgeon – FTC

Salary up to £65,000 DOE.

IVC Evidensia is the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group, made up of over 900 practices and referral hospitals, united by a shared purpose of happier animals and owners.

Spring Lodge, a trusted part of the Witham community, is looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys high standards, great teamwork and real satisfaction from clinical work.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Primary Care Veterinary Surgeon you will work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload. You will continue to develop your clinical skills, share knowledge with colleagues, and contribute positively to the clinical culture.

  • See a broad mix of patients including cats, dogs, small furries, exotics and wildlife.
  • Handle routine work alongside orthopaedics, TPLOs, fracture repairs, laparoscopy and ophthalmology, with hospital status allowing exposure to complex cases. Consult-only roles can also be discussed.
  • Have access to ultrasound, endoscopy, ECG, advanced imaging, a full IDEXX lab, digital and dental x-ray, and a wide range of laparoscopic and orthopaedic equipment.
  • Practice has separate cat and dog areas, multiple consult rooms, three theatres, dedicated imaging and lab spaces, purpose-built wards, quiet office areas and welcoming staff facilities – plus free off‑site parking and opportunities to work across multiple branches.
  • Work 41 hours over four days, with shifts from 8 am to a 6:30 pm last appointment. The rota includes 1 in 5 Saturday mornings and 1 in 8 emergency day cover for our own clients only. No OOH, and weekend working is balanced with extra time off, allowing up to five consecutive rest days.
You Might Be a Great Fit If…
  • Vets with a Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS.
  • Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Proactive approach to learning, openness to feedback and development.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
How We’ll Support You
  • Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership and specialist roles.
  • Funded learning and development including CPD allowance and access to IVC academy training centres and role‑relevant courses.
  • £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet.
  • Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches and peer networks.
  • Support to develop clinical interests and expand your capabilities.
  • A collaborative, values‑led culture focused on care, community and continuous improvement.
What We Offer Our Team
  • 6.8 weeks’ holiday including bank holidays.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay across maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy.
  • BVA membership, VDS cover and RCVS fees.
  • Cycle to Work and Green Car schemes (eligibility applies).
  • Retail discounts and cashback offers.
  • Reduced‑cost veterinary care for your own pets.
