Find a place to progress

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and diverse team at Walton Lodge, based at our Ware branch. This is a 12 month fixed-term maternity cover role. Your typical week will include consultations in the mornings and afternoons. After consultations, you will spend the rest of your day liaising with inpatients and their owners regarding further workups required, or you will be on theatre duties, completing the surgeries booked in for that day. We work to high general practice standards and handle an interesting and varied caseload.

Work-life balance

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we understand that work-life balance is vital. We offer flexible working patterns that fit your lifestyle, whether you need to balance school holidays, manage school runs, or find the perfect home-work balance. We are happy to consider part-time applications for this role.

Part-time role details

This part-time permanent position involves working 30 hours over 3 days per week, including 1 in 4 Saturday mornings. There are no out-of-hours commitments. Our clinic operates from 8am - 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 1pm on Saturdays.

Recently, we have expanded, opening three new practices across Stevenage and Hoddesdon, and our Ware practice has been refitted and extended. Our high-standard facilities include:

  • Sterile operating theatres across multiple locations
  • High-speed Colour Doppler Ultrasound scanners
  • Anaesthetic monitoring equipment
  • ECG machines
  • High-powered Dental Scalers and Polishers at all branches
  • A full range of blood testing laboratory facilities

Join our established team

Walton Lodge is home to a dedicated team of 8 experienced Veterinary Surgeons, 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses, and 11 Receptionists. Our senior Veterinary Surgeon, Helen Lee, qualified from Bristol University in 1984 and has worked in Hertfordshire since 1985 as a small animal Veterinary Surgeon.

We strongly encourage CPD, and our team actively engages in professional development. For example, one of our vets is currently undertaking a laparoscopic course with the RVC, and one of our RVNs is working towards a nursing certificate.
