Are you a passionate veterinary surgeon seeking a place to call your own, where you can make a real difference in the lives of both pets and their owners? Look no further! Join our close-knit team at Ashurst where we prioritise compassionate care and personal connections with the local community.

Find progression

Tired of feeling like just a cog in a machine? Here, your ideas and expertise are valued. Whether you have a bold new approach to patient care, an idea for improving client experiences, or a vision for expanding our services, we're all ears. Take the reins and lead the charge in implementing positive changes that shape the direction of our practice while honing your skills and expanding your knowledge.

Be part of something exceptional

Unicorn Vets is a group of three practices (Fairfield, Park & Ashurst) that has been in the Southampton area for over 30 years. With opportunities for growth and development, a supportive work environment, and a chance to strike the right work-life balance, this is a perfect opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon looking for a fulfilling and rewarding career.

Ashurst is currently working closely with its sister practice, Orchard Vets in Romsey as support. We are looking for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our Ashurst branch within the beautiful New Forest, with the option to also work at Orchard Vets, Romsey; you'll have the freedom to choose a location that suits you best.

Discover the next step in your career

The role provides a mixture of consulting and operating with an interesting and varied caseload. The role at Ashurst is sole charge so would suit a Veterinary Surgeon with some confidence in routine procedures; however, support for development is always on hand.

The practice is currently in the process of having some refurbishment works completed to update it but comes with a beautifully maintained garden to offer a space to relax.

The practice is equipped with digital X-ray, in-house haematology and biochemistry including SDMA, T4 and other extended panels, ultrasound with echocardiography, capnography, tonometry and ECG. Further equipment investment is open for discussion if you have a particular clinical interest.

We are one team - you're in good company

You are also able to tap into resources at Orchard Vets in Romsey which come equipped with 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 8 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 1 ACA and 4 receptionists/administrators as well as dental radiography, laparoscopy, endoscopy, K-Laser, Vetscan Imagyst and cryotherapy. You are welcome to utilise this equipment and see your case through or internally refer for treatment.

Typically, the full-time position is 40 hours per week over 4 days as the practice is currently closed on Wednesdays. The branch is not open on weekends and OOH cover is provided by Vets Now. However, we know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance. Whether you need to do the school pick-up, need reduced hours during school holidays or would simply like a more flexible rota pattern, we can look to fix or flex our patterns to suit you. We would also welcome part-time applicants.

Your work/life balance is our priority

Our flexible scheduling and reasonable caseloads ensure you have time to recharge and pursue your passions outside of work. Located in the beautiful New Forest with its ponies, plenty of outdoor pursuits and stunning landscapes, our practice offers a peaceful and scenic work environment. You'll have easy access to nearby cities such as Bournemouth and Southampton, and don’t forget the opportunity to explore the rest of the South Coast. With excellent schools and family-friendly communities, this is the perfect location for those looking to settle down.
