Job description
Overview

Salary up to £75,000 DOE, relocation allowance up to £2,000 and welcome bonus up to £5,000.

Taverham Vets is a long-established and much-loved part of the local community. Our clients know us well, and many have been bringing their pets to our friendly team for years. We’re now looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our branch practice, where you’ll have the chance to build strong client relationships and enjoy a varied caseload. At Taverham Vets, we pride ourselves on being approachable, supportive, and committed to the highest standards of patient care.

A Role with Variety and Independence

This is a great opportunity for a confident vet who enjoys sole charge work. You’ll mainly be caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, and the occasional small furry, supported day to day by a dedicated RVN, ANA, and receptionist. On Fridays, you’ll also be joined by a new graduate vet who’s keen to learn and develop alongside you. The role offers an excellent balance of consultations and surgeries, ensuring no two days feel the same.

A Well-Equipped, Cosy Practice

Our branch practice may be small, but it’s designed with efficiency and comfort in mind. We have a welcoming waiting area with separate spaces for cats and dogs, a large consult room, an x-ray room with dental x-ray facilities, a prep area and theatre, plus separate cat and dog kennels. Our in-house equipment includes portable ultrasound, dental x-ray, and on-site blood and urinalysis machines, giving you everything you need to provide high-quality first opinion care.

Surgery and Special Interests

Operating days are typically filled with routine procedures such as spays, castrates, lump removals, and dentals, all supported by our experienced RVN who also runs nurse clinics. You’ll also carry out BVA KC hip and elbow scoring for the practice. If you have a particular surgical interest, surgical or medical, we’d be delighted to support that either within the branch or at our main hospital, where there are additional facilities and opportunities to develop further.

Support from a Wider Network

Although this role is based in our branch, you’ll never feel isolated. The main Taverham Veterinary Hospital is just a 15-minute drive away and offers the support of a large, multi-disciplinary team, including certificate holders in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, small animal medicine, feline medicine, surgery, including orthopaedics, ECC, and dentistry. Referrals to the main site are always an option, giving you access to a wealth of expertise when needed.

Work-Life Balance You Can Count On

We’re offering a full-time position of 40 hours per week, worked across four days. Our weekend commitment working at branch is Saturday morning 1:2 or at the main Taverham Veterinary Hospital one in four weekends. We can also consider part time hours for the right candidate.

Life in Aylsham

Nestled in the heart of North Norfolk, Aylsham is a charming market town that perfectly blends history, community, and countryside living. Known for its twice-weekly markets and friendly local spirit, the town offers a great selection of independent shops, cafés, and traditional pubs. Just a short drive away, you’ll find the stunning Norfolk Broads, ideal for boating, walking, and wildlife watching, as well as the beautiful Norfolk coastline with its sandy beaches and dramatic landscapes. Norwich, with its vibrant cultural scene, shopping, and restaurants, is also within easy reach, offering the best of both city and country life. Aylsham provides a welcoming community and a fantastic quality of life, making it a wonderful place to live and work.
