Job description
Overview

Salary up to £75,000 DOE, relocation allowance up to £2,000 and welcome bonus up to £5,000. Taverham Vets is a long-established and much-loved part of the local community. We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our branch practice, with a chance to build strong client relationships and enjoy a varied caseload. We pride ourselves on being approachable, supportive, and committed to the highest standards of patient care.

A Role with Variety and Independence

This is a great opportunity for a confident vet who enjoys sole charge work. You will mainly care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and the occasional small mammal, supported day to day by a dedicated RVN, ANA, and receptionist. On Fridays you’ll also be joined by a new graduate vet who is keen to learn and develop alongside you. The role offers an excellent balance of consultations and surgeries, ensuring no two days feel the same.

A Well-Equipped, Cosy Practice

Our branch practice is designed for efficiency and comfort. We have a welcoming waiting area with separate spaces for cats and dogs, a large consult room, an x-ray room with dental x-ray facilities, a prep area and theatre, plus separate cat and dog kennels. Our in-house equipment includes portable ultrasound, dental x-ray, and on-site blood and urinalysis machines to support high-quality first opinion care.

Surgery and Special Interests

Operating days typically include routine procedures such as spays, castrates, lump removals, and dentals, supported by our experienced RVN who also runs nurse clinics. You will also carry out BVA KC hip and elbow scoring for the practice. If you have a particular surgical or medical interest, we are happy to support that either within the branch or at our main hospital, where there are additional facilities and opportunities to develop further.

Support from a Wider Network

Although this role is based in the branch, you’ll never feel isolated. The main Taverham Veterinary Hospital is a 15-minute drive away and offers the support of a large, multi-disciplinary team, including certificate holders in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, small animal medicine, feline medicine, surgery (including orthopaedics), ECC, and dentistry. Referrals to the main site are an option to access additional expertise when needed.

Work-Life Balance You Can Count On

We offer a full-time position of 40 hours per week, worked across four days. Weekend commitment is branch Saturdays 1:2 or the main hospital one in four weekends. Part-time hours can be considered for the right candidate.

Life in Aylsham

Nestled in North Norfolk, Aylsham is a charming market town with a strong community, history, and countryside living. It offers independent shops, cafés, pubs, and easy access to the Norfolk Broads and coastline. Norwich is within easy reach for city and country life.

Because Our People Matter

In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer comprehensive benefits, including:

  • Work-life balance: 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays; birthday holiday entitlement
  • Wellbeing: Private Medical Insurance; Employee Assistance Programme; enhanced family-friendly policies
  • Development: £1,250 CPD allowance with 40 hours paid CPD leave; certificate support; access to the IVC Evidensia Academy; Vetlexicon; research funding opportunities; Care Fund (£1,250 per vet per annum)
  • Infection Prevention and Control Programme; Quality Improvement Programme
  • Professional Memberships: BVA membership; VDS cover; RCVS fees
  • Colleague Benefits: pension scheme with employer contribution; Cycle to Work and Green Cars schemes; voluntary benefits; discounts with retailers; discounted treatment for your own pets at an IVC Evidensia practice
