Job description

Join a Supportive Practice by the Coast

We're looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly first‑opinion practice in the picturesque coastal town of Gourock.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident, experienced GP vet who enjoys all aspects of first‑opinion practice. You'll be comfortable with routine consultations, surgery and dentistry, with occasional sole charge to cover holidays. Your time will be well balanced between consulting and procedures, giving you the opportunity to build strong client relationships while enjoying a varied clinical caseload.

We pride ourselves on working cases up thoroughly and providing excellent continuity of care, with a loyal client base and plenty of opportunity to investigate more complex cases. Whether your interests lie in medicine, surgery or another area of general practice, you'll be supported to continue developing your skills and clinical interests.

Working Pattern & Flexibility

This is a full‑time position working 39 hours over a four‑day week (8:30am-6:30pm), with 1 in 4 Saturday mornings (8:30am-12:30pm). There are no out‑of‑hours commitments, with Vets Now Glasgow providing emergency and out‑of‑hours cover.

We're also happy to consider part‑time or flexible working for the right candidate, as we recognise the importance of achieving a healthy work‑life balance.

Team, Facilities & Culture

You’ll be joining a small, experienced and welcoming team that genuinely enjoys working together. Collaboration is at the heart of the practice, with regular case discussions, team meetings and a strong focus on continuous quality improvement. Our veterinary team has a range of clinical interests, including a certificate holder in Small Animal Medicine, while our highly experienced nursing team includes a certificate holder in Nutrition and another nurse currently undertaking an Anaesthesia Certificate.

We actively encourage further professional development and are always keen to support new clinical interests and certificate study.

Our modern facilities include:

  • Digital radiography
  • New dental radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • Multi‑parameter monitoring
  • Bair Hugger patient warming system
  • Well‑equipped first‑opinion surgical and consulting facilities
Life in Gourock

Located on Scotland's stunning west coast, Gourock offers an exceptional lifestyle with breathtaking views across the River Clyde, beautiful coastal walks and nearby beaches all on your doorstep. The practice benefits from excellent transport links, with regular rail services into Glasgow and ferry connections across to Argyll, making it easy to enjoy both city life and Scotland's spectacular west coast.

For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, Gourock is also home to one of the UK's only outdoor swimming pools, located just across the road from the practice-a unique local attraction that's perfect for making the most of the summer months.
