Job description
Overview

McKenzie Vets is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis. We offer a diverse and interesting caseload, including a mix of medical and surgical cases such as routine neutering, pyometras, lump removals, GI foreign bodies and dentistry, as well as radiology and consults. If you have a particular area of interest, we would be happy to support you in developing this further.

We pride ourselves on the high standard of care for our patients. We have lovely clients and pets, and, being rural, an amazing variety of patients of all breeds and sizes. We are small animal only but see some exotics and occasionally work with otters and turtles at the Sea Life Centre. We have Silver Cat Friendly status and have achieved RCVS GP accreditation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide medical and surgical care for small animals as part of a small animal practice.
  • Manage routine procedures such as neutering, lump removals, and dentistry, as well as radiology and general consults.
  • Support development of any area of particular interest for the veterinarian.
  • Deliver high standards of patient care and client service within the practice.
Work-life Balance and Schedule

Our flexible approach to rotas and working hours offers a balance that fits your lifestyle. We work 40 hours over 4 or 5 days per week with Saturday mornings shared on an equal rota. We are open to flexible working or part-time hours for the right candidate. No Out of Hours requirement.

Location and Practice

Located in Alexandria in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the area offers charming villages, countryside, hills and mountains, and access to watersports on Loch Lomond. We are about 30 minutes from Glasgow city centre with good transport links. The town features Victorian and art nouveau architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Our practice is well equipped with the latest veterinary tools, including a dental machine and dental X-ray, digital radiology, Idexx biochemistry and haematology, ultrasound and laser. Our team currently consists of four experienced vets, three RVNs (two with certificates) who run their own clinics and nurse-led initiatives. We have a dedicated theatre, prep area, kennels and three consult rooms.

Benefits and Perks
  • Competitive base salary and work-life balance.
  • Private Medical Insurance, Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 confidential helpline), enhanced family-friendly policies, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • CPD allowance (£1250) with 40 hours paid CPD leave pro rata, certificate support, and access to the IVC Evidensia Academy.
  • Research funding opportunities for Vets and £1250 per annum via Care Fund for Vets.
  • Infection Prevention and Control Programme, Quality Improvement Programme, BVA membership, VDS cover, and RCVS fees.
  • Company pension scheme, Cycle to Work and Green Cars schemes, voluntary benefits, and discounts with retailers.
  • Discounted treatment for your own pets at an IVC Evidensia practice.
  • Up to £55,000 DOE.
