Job description

Westwood Vets, Garforth, Aberford Road, Garforth, Yorkshire & The Humber

Westwood Vets is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our well-established team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This position is working 8:30am – 6:30pm, 3 days per week.

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

The Role

Kirks Vets are looking for a dedicated first opinion vet to work alongside 8 other vets across their two busy practices, working as part of a supportive, positive team. The successful candidate will be involved in all general veterinary duties, both medical and surgical. Our team agree that the successful vet needs to be an exceptional communicator with a strong customer focus.

Based in our Sleaford practice, the standard working pattern is a 4-day week with 10.5-hour days, although a flexible shift pattern can be agreed. Weekend cover is 1 in 5, with no out-of-hours requirements.

About the Team and Culture

Westwood Veterinary Practice is both well-established and displays a visible presence with branches in the rural village setting of Boston Spa and the bustling town of Garforth. Both practices offer different capabilities, with most diagnostics performed at the Boston Spa branch and dentistry at the Garforth surgery.

As a practice, we strive to offer high-quality care to all our patients, with a keen focus on diagnostic work-ups and proactive preventative healthcare. We are a warm and friendly team with an excellent client base.

Westwood is a busy first opinion small animal practice. We also work closely with Cats Protection Leeds, with dedicated operating days supporting their charity work.

Both practices have a designated operating theatre and prep area, with separate cat and dog wards at the Garforth surgery. The Garforth surgery has digital dental x-ray and excellent dental capabilities.

We have a wide range of equipment, including:

  • Digital x-ray
  • Ultrasonography at both practices
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Laparoscopy
  • In-house laboratory
  • Laser therapy
  • In-house orthopaedic capabilities, including MMP
  • Echocardiograms and ECG

Here’s what Jo had to say:

"From the day I joined Westwood Vets I was made to feel incredibly welcome and part of the great team here. Not only are the team great fun to work with, but they are some of the most professional, diligent and committed colleagues I have ever worked with. Truly a great place to work!"
