Job description

Salary up to £75,000 DOE

Welcome Bonus up to £5,000

Relocation Allowance up to £8,000

We are looking for a motivated and dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our team in our Chepstow branch. This is a sole charge position, but we are a group of three, so we provide plenty of support across our branches.

Your day-to-day

This is a first-opinion GP medicine role; your day-to-day duties will include a daily mix of consulting and operating. We welcome vets with any interest in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and medicine and we will always encourage your growth and development.

We care about your work/life balance

Typically, the full-time position includes working 4 days a week, 9-6pm with a one-hour lunch break with the option of 1:5 Saturdays in Newport - Summerhill which can be incorporated within your hours. We are also happy to consider part-time applications. Our Surgery opening hours are 8:30am-6 pm. Typically a full-time shift would be required to work.

We are a busy small animal branch practice seeing a large diverse caseload and can offer many opportunities to try out something new medically or surgically with the support of the team.

At the main branch Newport we have top-of-the-range facilities including an ultrasound machine, endoscope, dental radiography, and Idexx in-house lab equipment which you can arrange to use. At the branch, you have in-house Idexx bloods machine, microscope, dental machine, and theatre.

Our experienced team

Our group Clinical Director is based at the main Newport site and is very much hands-on with clinical work and supporting the team. We have many certificate-holders within our group and encourage self-development, with full support from your team and financial support from the practice. We strive for high clinical standards, practice evidence-based medicine, run monthly morbidity and mortality meetings, and regular in-house CPD, practice meetings and encourage a caring and sharing culture.

Our group consists of 6 vets with a mix of full and part-time. Our nurses are always on hand and most are comfortable with schedule 3 procedures.

Your sole charge branch will have the team of one RVN and one receptionist every day to help support and run the branch.

We run a satellite clinic from our Surgery in Newport every Tuesday afternoon for ophthalmology specialist Brian Patterson from Vale Vets. He is always on hand to ask for advice about any tricky eye cases.
