Vets Now Witham invites applications from veterinary surgeons for a part-time backshift role within our emergency and critical care setting. The position focuses on a rotating 4-week schedule with weeknights, weekends, and bank holidays, delivering high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with registration in good standing (RCVS).
• Experience in emergency/ referral or ECC setting preferred.
• Ability to work independently on backshifts and multi-pet caseloads.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during backshift hours.
• Collaborate with on-call team to manage emergencies and complex cases.
• Contribute to training and mentorship within the Witham ECC team.
• Participate in a 4-week rolling rota including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.

Working in this ECC setting will sharpen and develop your veterinary skills.

Vets Now Witham is located between Chelmsford and Colchester, easily accessible via the A12.

Working out-of-hours doesn’t mean working all hours

In this part‑time role, you will work the backshifts.

The shifts in this role, will be on a 4‑week rolling rota, and include the following: A mixture of weeknight backshifts and weekend backshifts, plus a fair share of bank holidays.

The proposed rota within this role, is on a 4‑week rolling pattern:

• Week1 – Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• Week2 – Monday
• Week3 – Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• Week4 – Monday

The shift times typically include; Monday-Friday 7pm-12am and Saturday and Sunday 4pm-12am.

As a backshift Vet you will often work as the second Vet on shift, providing an opportunity to share knowledge and work together on the more complex cases.
