Veterinary Surgeon – Ipswich, Suffolk
About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon in Ipswich, Suffolk, offering a salary of £45,000–£60,000 depending on experience, with full or part-time hours available.

The role offers an excellent work-life balance, with a maximum 4-day working week, no out-of-hours and flexible weekend arrangements. Full-time vets will typically work a 4-day week, while part-time hours and days can be discussed.

The position would suit a proactive Veterinary Surgeon with solid medical and surgical skills, ideally with 2–3 years' experience, who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and managing a varied caseload.

About the Practice

The practice is a well-established, purpose-built small animal veterinary surgery serving a loyal client base in the Ipswich and Suffolk area.

The experienced clinical team includes 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 RVNs, a Student Veterinary Nurse and a VCA, supported by dedicated non-clinical colleagues. The team values collaboration, regularly discusses cases and shares knowledge to support continued clinical development.

The practice provides a varied caseload with a strong focus on in-house diagnostic work-ups, advanced soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics. A visiting internal medicine specialist also provides additional clinical support.

Facilities include:

The surgical caseload includes routine procedures alongside more advanced cases such as exploratory laparotomies, splenectomies, gastrotomies, enterectomies, BOAS procedures, TTA and TECA.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with experienced Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs and visiting specialists.

  • Participate in clinical discussions and contribute to shared learning.

  • Build strong relationships with clients and provide excellent patient care.

  • Maintain high standards of clinical and professional practice.

  • Develop surgical and medical interests through CPD and certificate opportunities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and proactive Veterinary Surgeon with solid medical and surgical skills and a genuine commitment to high-quality patient care.

They should enjoy working collaboratively and be comfortable contributing to a varied caseload in a supportive clinical environment.

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Hold RCVS registration or be eligible to register.

  • Have 2–3 years' veterinary experience, although candidates with relevant experience at other stages of their career may be considered.

  • Be confident managing both medical and surgical cases.

  • Have strong communication and client-care skills.

  • Enjoy working as part of a close-knit clinical team.

  • Be keen to learn from experienced colleagues and share their own knowledge.

Compensation & Benefits
  • £45,000–£60,000 depending on experience
