Job description

Veterinary Surgeon – Hertfordshire

  • Exciting and rare opportunity at a brand-new, state-of-the-art independent small animal practice in the centre of Hertfordshire opening in January 2025
  • Become a founding member of this friendly 2-vet, 3-nurse team that places emphasis on staff welfare, input and collaboration
  • Play a critical role in shaping the environment, equipment and caseload of this exciting new venture
  • Genuine independent approach; no restrictive sales targets and no culture of pushing procedures or medications for non-clinical reasons
  • Fantastic renumeration package, including salary up to £70,000 DOE and 5% profit share scheme for all vets

Purovets are proud to share this incredibly exciting and rare opportunity for a confident and passionate veterinary surgeon to become a founding member of the team at a brand-new, state-of-the-art independent small animal practice that is opening in January 2025. You will be based in a beautiful commuter town that is known for its picturesque riverside, historical landmarks and beautiful parks, and it is just a short 30-minute train ride from central London!

Opening in early January 2025, this exciting new venture will be well-equipped with digital x-ray, dental x-ray, in-house lab, ultrasound and all the standard kit you would expect. They also plan to make a point of consulting their vets on the equipment they want to use, and as long as it is beneficial to the practice and the services they offer, they will make it happen! You will be joining the first-day team which consists of the lead vet, 1 additional vet, 3 RVNs, 1 PCA, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. There will be a strong focus on staff welfare, input and collaboration; as well as the experienced staff in-house, you will have access to the support and expertise of the established team at their sister practice. They are only a phone call away and always happy to help wherever they can!

They are proud to offer a real independent approach to veterinary care, not just corporate-lite. There are absolutely no sales targets and no culture pushing procedures or medication for non-clinical reasons, so you will have the clinical freedom to work up cases that interest you without interference or limitation. Furthermore, they see CPD as an investment in the individual as well as for the practice, and they are happy to support you in any professional development that will benefit the practice and make you a better vet. With this in mind, they are also very keen to support you in studying for certificate qualifications.

The prospective full-time rota is 40 hours a week across 4 days, working from 8:30am to 6:30pm. There is currently no weekend rota, and there are no OOHs involved either! They can offer visa sponsorship for the right candidate, but you must already have UK clinical experience. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of UK clinical experience and be confident with routine surgical and medical procedures.

The Rota:

  • Full-time role, 40 hours a week
  • 4 days, 8:30am – 6:30pm
  • No weekends or OOHs currently

Why Join:

  • Market-Leading Renumeration:
    • Salary up to £70,000 DOE
    • 5% profit share scheme for all vets
  • Generous Benefits:
    • 29 days annual leave including Bank Holidays
    • Birthday leave
    • Pension scheme
    • Staff discount
    • Free parking
    • Gym membership
  • Progression and Development:
    • RCVS and VDS fees paid
    • 5 days paid CPD leave and generous CPD allowance per annum
    • Certificate support
    • Career progression opportunities
    • Visa sponsorship available for high-level candidates
