Job description

Veterinary Surgeon - Equine with Lameness Bias
Experienced Equine Vet with Lameness Bias: Join Our Team in Aberdeenshire!

Are you an experienced Equine Vet seeking a new challenge? Ardene House Veterinary Practice are proud to offer a rare opportunity for an experienced and motivated Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our supportive and close-knit team in Kingswells, Aberdeen. This is a permanent role that offers variety, clinical freedom, and the chance to work in one of the best-equipped equine practices in the northeast of Scotland.

A role tailored to your clinical interests

We understand that life outside of work is just as important, and we’re happy to tailor the rota to suit your lifestyle and preferences. The full-time position includes working up to 40 hours per week with flexible working patterns to help you achieve a great work-life balance. Our current out-of-hours rota is 1:8, supported by a dedicated on-call vet, with a half day off following a weeknight on-call and a Friday off after a weekend on-call. Whether you’re looking to fix your hours or would prefer some flexibility, we’re keen to find the right solution for you.

You’ll enjoy a varied and rewarding caseload, from much-loved family ponies to elite competition horses. There is ample opportunity to focus on your clinical passions, particularly in lameness, with the full support of the team and access to excellent diagnostic tools. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include ambulatory work, vaccinations, dentistry, diagnostics, emergency care, and developing thorough treatment plans. We also receive referrals from across the region, including the Scottish islands, giving you the chance to work on more complex and interesting cases.

Why Ardene House?

Our modern, purpose-built equine unit at Ardene House is equipped to support best clinical practice, with seven stables, dedicated trot-up areas, a synthetic surface outdoor school, treatment room, stocks, knockdown box, and a fully equipped surgical theatre. We also offer a wide range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including portable DR radiography, multiple ultrasound scanners, surgical and rehab lasers, and video arthroscopy and endoscopy. You’ll be joining a truly collaborative and friendly team of international equine vets, nursing assistants, and office staff who share a passion for delivering high-quality care in a supportive, inclusive environment. With open communication, clinical discussions, and a healthy dose of humour at the heart of our culture, you’ll be supported by colleagues with advanced qualifications in internal medicine, dentistry, and ECC, alongside visiting specialists and regular CPD activities such as journal clubs and case discussions.

At the same time, Aberdeen City offers a vibrant cultural scene with theatres, galleries, restaurants, and shopping, giving you plenty of options to enjoy your time off and feel part of a thriving community.
