Overview

Veterinary Surgeon – Cornwall

My client has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly, loyal team in a stunning coastal town in Cornwall. Regularly named one of the UK’s most beautiful seaside destinations, it is renowned for crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, a vibrant arts scene, and excellent restaurants and surf spots. The practice is a short walk from both the town centre and the beach, with panoramic views across the bay from its windows.

Practice & Team

The Practice: compact, well-organised small-animal surgery with two consulting rooms, a fully equipped theatre and prep area, a spacious reception, a separate staff room, and its own car park. Facilities include an in-house laboratory for haematology and biochemistry, digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental equipment with scaler and polisher, and separate dog and cat kennels.

The Team: you will join a 3 vet team consisting of 2 branch partners and 1 veterinary surgeon. The clinic is supported by an experienced Head Nurse, a Student Veterinary Nurse, and a Client Care Assistant who have built strong relationships with a loyal client base and share a passion for exceptional patient care.

The Role

This is primarily a sole-charge position suited to a Veterinary Surgeon with at least three years’ UK experience and confidence in routine surgery, diagnostics, and consultations. The role is offered ideally on a part-time basis (three days per week) but flexible or full-time arrangements will be considered. A rolling rota provides genuine work–life balance, including only 1-in-3 Saturday mornings (8:30 am–12:30 pm) and no out-of-hours or bank-holiday commitments.

Key Benefits
  • Salary up to £65,000 per annum (FTE), dependent on experience
  • Private Medical Insurance and health cash plan from day one (including dental, physio, optical, and 24/7 private GP access)
  • Life assurance at 3× salary
  • 5 weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 6 weeks with service, plus an additional paid “Day for You”
  • £1,500 CPD allowance with 3 days’ paid CPD leave and funded certificate opportunities
  • VDS, RCVS, and BVA fees paid
  • Sabbatical option based on length of service
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Staff discount
  • 24-hour counselling support and Tier 2 visa sponsorship/relocation assistance where required
Responsibilities
  • Deliver outstanding clinical care during consultations and procedures
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication and updates to clients
  • Maintain the highest standards of regulatory and operational compliance
  • Prepare accurate, tailored treatment and care plans with transparent cost estimates
  • Mentor and support colleagues, sharing clinical best practice
  • Complete thorough clinical handovers and arrange transfer of patients requiring enhanced care
Candidate Profile
  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
  • Confident in routine surgery, diagnostics, and client communication
  • Skilled in clinical leadership, mentoring, and collaborative teamwork
  • Experienced in supporting nurse consultations and Schedule 3 procedures
  • Committed to progressive, high-quality clinical practice

For veterinary professionals seeking a fulfilling role with exceptional work–life balance in one of the UK’s most picturesque coastal locations, this is a rare opportunity to join a welcoming team and enjoy the very best of Cornish living.
