Job description
Overview

Full time hours. Flexible working. Varied caseload. Up to £60,000.

If you're an experienced vet who has ambition to develop further and would like a unique career path built specifically for you, then we have the role for you here at Tilehurst Vets for Pets.

We have a friendly and inclusive team made up of an experienced front of house team, two fully qualified RVNs, two student nurses and one newly appointed Veterinary Care Assistant. We also have a newly appointed Clinical Nurse Practice Manager and Clinical Director with 20 years of clinical experience (advanced practitioner in emergency and critical care, with additional post-graduate certificate in feline medicine, currently undergoing a post-graduate training in ophthalmology).

Our busy practice carries out a varied caseload typically with cats, dogs and small furry animals, including rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs. We cover all aspects of internal medicine & surgery, including routine surgeries (neutering and castrations) as well as more advanced procedures such as splenectomies, GDVs, anal gland removals, foreign object removals, colonic surgeries, caesarean sections, cystotomies and nephrectomies. We also perform full abdominal and chest ultrasounds, basic echocardiography, and full dental work with advanced dental radiographs. We have an increased number of in-house ophthalmology cases.

We’re looking to expand our ophthalmology service as soon as we have purchased additional equipment such as a slit lamp and tonopen, but we already have standard equipment in practice including dental x-ray, regular x-ray, ultrasound machine, fully equipped surgical theatre with multiparameter monitoring, infusion pumps and syringe drivers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality care across a varied caseload, including cats, dogs and small mammals.
  • Assist with and perform routine and advanced surgical procedures as appropriate.
  • Contribute to internal medicine, diagnostics, imaging (ultrasound, radiography) and dental procedures.
  • Support and collaborate with the ophthalmology service as equipment becomes available.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and participate in on-call or after-hours work as required by the practice schedule.
Benefits
  • Salary up to £60,000 FTE.
  • Benefits you’d expect from a major employer (pension, healthcare, paid memberships, etc.).
  • Career progression opportunities and exclusive lifestyle and shopping discounts (up to 30% off at Pets at Home).
  • Relocation packages from within or outside the UK, including visa sponsorship if needed (A+ rated sponsor).
  • Potential flexible hours; currently not operating over weekends with future Saturday openings being considered.
