Job description

Who They Are

GVC is supporting a friendly, supportive small animal team in Doncaster (South Yorkshire) looking to add a Veterinary Surgeon. They operate across two sites (a main hospital and a refurbished branch) with a team of six vets and a broad mix of interests, so there’s day-to-day support and a real focus on development. Out-of-hours and bank holiday cover is handled by an external provider, including overnight inpatient care, allowing good continuity without an in-house OOH rota.

What You’ll Do

This is a role for a Veterinary Surgeon who can work independently in medicine and surgery, maintaining high clinical standards without needing close clinical supervision. Depending on your strengths, you can shape your week towards:

• Consulting and case workups with in-house diagnostics and a strong "work up most cases internally" approach
• Surgical lists with scope for a wide range of procedures, including laparoscopic and orthopaedic work (where appropriate to experience)
• Dedicated hospital shifts supporting inpatients and handling emergency presentations, alongside routine GP work
• Clear client communication, safe decision-making, and consistent case management standards
• Collaboration with the wider team across both sites to keep patient flow, handovers, and outcomes strong

What You’ll Gain
