Job description

In the heart of North London next to the River Lea is our highly popular first opinion Tottenham practice, and they are looking for a veterinary surgeon to take the helm.

We are looking for a like‑minded colleague who will be committed to their team, clients and their beloved animals, and really make this role their own.

About your new role

Tottenham’s charm is aided by its incredible support team, including a senior nurse and experienced student and trainee nurses, all passionate about veterinary care.

This is a sole charge position that has a perfectly manageable caseload for a confident GP first‑opinion vet. You will be able to comfortably balance morning consultations, perform routine surgeries during the day, catch up on admin and then round up with evening consults.

This role involves a 4‑day week, Monday to Thursday (with an early finish on Thursday) plus a 1:4 branch Saturday morning and 1:8 Hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota ‘d to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead Hospital and be included in the last‑resort on‑call rotation, which is rarely used.

Key responsibilities
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and providing management and treatment recommendations based on best practice and GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within personal competence boundaries and limitations of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure pets’ histories are accurate, comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, first to a GVG Hospital when unable to undertake a case locally.
  • Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
  • Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinic’s SOPs are actioned.
  • Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.

You will be fully supported by a highly experienced regional manager and regional head vet, as well as Wanstead 24‑hour hospital for referrals and a rotating night team for OOH care.

Salary & benefits

Salary band: £60,000 to £90,000 FTE, depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth.

Benefits include:

  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro‑rata if part‑time)
  • Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
  • CPD budget every year and 5 days paid CPD leave (pro‑rata if part‑time)
  • Private Medical Healthcare Insurance with Bupa
  • Colleague introduction reward for introduction of vets and RVNs
  • 24‑hour Employee Assistance Programme
  • Medical cashback plan for routine medical costs
  • Professional membership fees covered
