Job description

We are recruiting a mixed veterinary surgeon to join our small team at our independent island practice. We are based on the Isle of Benbecula in the windswept and beautiful Outer Hebrides, off the North West coast of Scotland and cover the whole of the Southern Isles, comprising 6 islands from Berneray to Barra. We offer our services to a large and varied client base.

We are a true mixed practice 45% large, 45% small, 5% equine, 5% other/wildlife. The small animal work ranges from routine consultations to more advanced surgery, and our equine client base is growing steadily.

You will be working alongside the practice owner and veterinary assistant. The current on call rota is 1 in 3.

We are very keen to support a candidate through certificates/ further training and there is real scope for development in areas of personal interest which could then be offered as a new service at the Practice. We have all the standard equipment and have very recently had our premises renovated. We are a VetGDP practice.

This is an unrivaled opportunity for those that are interested in outdoor pursuits such as walking on the rugged east coast of Uist, surfing the waves of the golden beaches of the west, bird watching from sea eagles to corncrakes, fishing for salmon, sea and brown trout on the many freshwater lochs and wild swimming for hardier souls!
