Prospect Health is recruiting for a Veterinary Surgeon in the Preston area to join a highly regarded independent small animal practice offering a salary of £50,000 - £75,000 depending on experience.

The Practice

This independently owned small animal practice has created a working environment focused on providing excellent patient care while supporting the development and wellbeing of its team.

You’ll have access to excellent facilities including:

The practice also has Vets with additional qualifications and clinical interests across areas including dentistry, surgery, ophthalmology, pain management, behaviour and medicine.

If you have a particular clinical interest or would like to work towards a certificate, you'll receive plenty of encouragement and support.

How the Practice Works

The team has deliberately structured the working day to give Vets the time they need to provide high - quality care.

You can expect:

• 20 minute consultations as standard
• Protected case management time
• Regular morning, midday and evening clinical rounds
• Excellent collaboration between Vets and nurses
• An experienced and trusted RVN team
• Regular development meetings and appraisals
• A culture where questions, feedback and new ideas are encouraged
• Strong continuity of care for hospitalised patients

Rather than focusing simply on appointment numbers, the practice places considerable emphasis on providing Vets with the time and support needed to manage cases properly.

Working Hours & Rota

The rota is structured across Monday to Friday with one weekday off each week.

Monday to Thursday will typically include:

• One 8.30am - 7.30pm shift with responsibility for inpatient care that evening
• One 8.30am - 7.30pm shift, usually at a nearby branch, with appointments finishing at approximately 6pm and the remaining time allocated to case management
• One 8.30am - 5pm shift
• One weekday off
• A one - hour lunch break is built into the working day and is routinely protected.

The weekend rota is shared across the veterinary team and includes a mixture of Saturday mornings and earlier Friday finishes. Some Fridays may finish as early as 1pm, depending on the rota.

There is occasional overnight responsibility for inpatients, but this does not involve remaining at the practice overnight and will typically require an evening check rather than continuous overnight cover.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and wants to continue developing clinically.

You’ll ideally:

• Have at least two years' experience as a Veterinary Surgeon
• Be confident managing a varied small animal caseload
• Value clinical independence and the opportunity to make your own decisions
• Enjoy working closely with experienced Vets and RVNs
• Be keen to develop your clinical skills and interests
• Have a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
• Be comfortable occasionally working across nearby practice locations
