Job description

About Us

We are a well-established, single-site and proudly independent 5-vet practice based in the town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Would you like to join us in our mission to provide the highest standard of veterinary care in a compassionate and friendly environment?

We are a small team of 4.5 vets, 3 RVNs, 1 SVN,1practice manager and 4 support staff. We are a proudly independent practice and we are true to our values of treating our patients as we would like to be treated ourselves. We do not set targets and do not monitor KPIs! We pride ourselves on providing a quality service for a fair price.
Our clients are wonderful – loyal, friendly, and usually very appreciative. Many of them have been with us for generations!

We have a full in-house laboratory, doing in-house cytology, biochemisty, haematology etc. We have digital radiography, modern ultrasound, tonometry and lots of toys and gadgets. We have recently had a newcustom-made kennels and cat ward installed and have a new theatre and prep room in the planning.

CPD is encouraged and funded. We currently have two nurses undertaking certificates.

Wealsohave several staff nights out per year, for a meal after work or a night on the tiles!

We are based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, with the Peak District a 20 minute drive away, and within easy reach of the M1 / A38 for excellent transport links.

The Role

Our vets work a 4 day week, 9am – 6pm, and 1:4 Saturdays 9am – 2pm, with no OOH and no Sundays or Bank Holidays.

A typical consult day entails consults of minimum 20 minute duration 9am – 12pm and then a break until 2pm for lunch, admin, blood analysisetc, then consults 2pm - 6pm.

A typical operating day would be admission of patients from 9am – 10am then operations until 4pm, with a lunch break in-between. Then between 4pm and 6pm time for a few more appointments and see-outs.

Saturdays we have sole-charge and urgent cases only until 12pm when Vets Now take our phones and we run a pre-booked vaccine / non urgent clinic 12pm – 2pm.
We hold back several hours of vet appointments each day until 9am for on-the-day urgent cases, to avoid us getting overbooked.

We currently have a new graduate completing their GDP so at the moment so catering for a new or very recent graduatewould be difficult (though not impossible for the right person) to offer.

Ideally we would require someone who is competent at routine surgeries, but we have trained many new graduates over the years and feel the right fit for the team is much more important than immediately available skills. We love to offer support and take great pride in the wonderful vets we’ve helpednutureover the years!

Full time (4 days) would be preferred but part time would be considered for the right candidate.

We offer a generous salary from £38,000 for new graduates up to £60,000, depending on experience and skillset.

The Package

We offer a very competitive salary, with generous staff discount, 6 weeks’ holiday and Bank Holidays off too. CPD is encouraged and funded. We will gladly fund relevant CPD as desired. We currently have two nurses undertaking certificates.

We have a kettle in near-constant use and have ample supplies of biscuits, cakes and goodies!
