Our Client’s practice is an independently owned small animal veterinary group based in Hillingdon, West London, and is looking to hire an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team. The role offers an excellent combination of clinical freedom, varied caseloads and professional development opportunities, with the chance to work across both a busy main hospital and branch surgeries.
The practice offers a four-day working week, providing a good balance between clinical responsibilities and time away from work.
The weekend rota is shared on a 1:5 basis, covering Saturdays from 8:30am–6pm and Sundays from 9am–12pm for any necessary rechecks. Sunday attendance is rarely required, as calls remain diverted to the out-of-hours provider, although the session is still paid.
There is also a 1:3 Saturday morning rota, covering 8:30am–1pm. There are no overnight on-call responsibilities, with out-of-hours services provided externally.
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied first opinion small animal caseload, working across both the main hospital and branch surgeries. The role involves a mixture of consultations, routine surgery and medical cases, with opportunities to follow cases through and develop strong relationships with clients and their pets.
The position offers a good level of clinical independence, including sole-charge responsibilities within the branch surgeries, while still benefiting from the support of experienced colleagues when managing more complex cases.
There is excellent scope to develop individual clinical interests, with mentoring available from senior Veterinary Surgeons and support for those wishing to pursue further qualifications or certificate study.
The veterinary team currently consists of eight Veterinary Surgeons, including part-time colleagues, with a variety of clinical interests and experience levels.
The practice encourages a collaborative approach to clinical work, with colleagues regularly sharing knowledge, discussing cases and supporting one another. This creates a welcoming environment where vets can develop their confidence and clinical skills while maintaining the independence to manage their own caseloads.
The independently owned group operates a busy main hospital alongside several branch surgeries, providing a broad range of first opinion veterinary services across West London.
The combination of hospital and branch work offers excellent clinical variety, allowing Veterinary Surgeons to manage routine cases independently while having access to additional support and facilities for more complex patients.
The main hospital is equipped with a new digital X-ray system and ultrasound facilities, with the practice also exploring further investment in dental radiography.
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with at least three years of UK practice experience and confidence managing a varied first opinion caseload.
They should be comfortable with routine consultations, medical cases and surgical procedures, alongside working sole charge when required.
The practice would welcome both Veterinary Surgeons looking to build their confidence with more complex cases and those with greater experience who enjoy managing their own caseload and supporting colleagues.
Strong communication skills, a collaborative attitude and a genuine passion for animal care are essential. The successful candidate should also have a good sense of humour, an interest in continued clinical development and a willingness to contribute positively to the wider team.
A full UK driving licence is essential due to travel between the hospital and branch surgeries.
