Build on your surgical skills in a modern, ambitious small animal practice

Twenty-minute consults, strong support and CPD shaped around your interests

Four-day week, no OOH and a Saturday rota moving toward one in four

Join a growing small animal team where high clinical standards sit alongside a blame-free, collaborative culture. With 20-minute consults, a modern practice, strong nursing support and scope to develop your interests, you can keep building your medical and surgical skills while enjoying a four-day week, no OOH and a Saturday rota planned to move from one in three to one in four.

About us

At Beckenham Vets for Pets, you will join a growing small animal practice built around high clinical standards, open feedback and a genuinely collaborative culture. The team aims to create a blame‑free environment where people can keep learning, contribute ideas and focus on delivering thoughtful care for patients and clients.

You will be supported by three RVNs, four VCAs and a practice administrator in a modern surgery designed to provide both a strong clinical environment and a pleasant place to work. The wider practice is locally owned and led by Dr Dzuni Ngobeni, a Veterinary Surgeon with a Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.

They were warm, approachable, professional and generally just caring in the way a pet lover would hope. We were superbly taken care of by Emily on reception who couldn’t have been more helpful. Then we received excellent care and attention from Dr. Dzuni. Truly excellent service all round. Thank You! – Chris Glynne – Google Review

About this role

This is an opportunity for an experienced small animal Veterinary Surgeon to build on the skills you already have while continuing to develop in the areas that interest you most.

Consultations are 20 minutes, giving you useful time with patients and clients, while the clinical scope includes routine surgery, emergency medicine and more involved soft tissue procedures. The practice actively supports postgraduate qualifications and CPD, so there is room to keep progressing rather than simply repeating the same caseload.

The role can be considered on a full‑time or part‑time basis. Full‑time is based around a four‑day week, with no out‑of‑hours requirement. The current Saturday rota is one in three, with the aim of moving to one in four.

About you

You will suit this team if you enjoy working collaboratively, communicate clearly with clients and want to practise in a calm, compassionate way. An interest in stress‑free and fear‑free techniques will fit particularly well with the practice approach.

You will also need to:

  • Be confident managing consultations and your own cases
  • Be comfortable with routine surgery including spays and castrations
  • Be proficient in emergency medicine and soft tissue surgery, including procedures such as exploratory laparotomy, cystotomy, pyometra surgery and caesarean section
  • Have at least three years of small animal veterinary experience

Beckenham offers an appealing balance between London access and a more relaxed suburban setting. The practice is around half an hour from central London, with strong national and international transport links, while the surrounding area retains leafy streets and a village feel.

The surgery is located inside Pets at Home on Upper Elmers End Road in Eden Park, with parking available on site.

Our offer

The salary is £50,000 DOE / FTE, alongside a generous wider benefits package.

You will also have proactive support for CPD and postgraduate qualifications in your areas of interest, a four‑day full‑time working week, no out‑of‑hours requirement and a Saturday rota planned to reduce from one in three to one in four.
