Job description

How we actually work

We don’t rush.

Barry is hiring. (And he’s fussy.)

I run a veterinary practice. Technically. But let’s be honest… I’m a cat. So I actually run the place. I live here. I supervise everything. We’re looking for a vet. An experienced one who can support and mentor Holly, our new graduate, as she works through her GDP. But more importantly… I’m looking for the right human.

The role
  • Full-time, with genuine flexibility (open to part-time split or term-time contracts)
  • Salary from £65k+ depending on experience
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • No out-of-hours

How we actually work

We don’t rush. Appointments are 15 minutes as standard, but if you need longer, you take longer. Lunch is protected. Properly. We close the practice for an hour. No clients. No routine calls. We walk, eat together, and reset before the afternoon.

You’ll be supported by:

  • 3 highly capable RVNs who fully utilise Schedule 3
  • A strong, hands‑on support team
  • A genuinely collaborative environment where everyone mucks in

Facilities include:

  • Dedicated theatre
  • Large prep area
  • Separate kennels and cattery
  • Digital x-ray, ultrasound, tonopen

We also see a range of exotics. Snakes live in the practice. You don’t have to handle them if it’s not your thing, but the option is there if you enjoy variety.

________________________________________

The culture (read this properly)

We’re a team in the real sense of the word. We’re supportive, honest, sometimes loud, and we look out for each other. We don’t do:

  • hierarchy
  • egos
  • corporate-style pressure
  • targets

We’re proudly inclusive and value diversity across the team. We’re working towards our autism-friendly award and are genuinely supportive of neurodivergent team members. We recognise that people work in different ways and actively support that. If you want somewhere you can do your job properly, be yourself, and enjoy the people you work with, it might be exactly right.

________________________________________

Outside of work

We believe in work to live, not live to work.

  • Holidays are supported, not restricted
  • The team covers each other
  • Burnout isn’t normalised

Some of us play netball together, many enjoy fitness and the outdoors, and we’re right on the edge of the Peak District. Dogs are welcome at work.
