Shenfield has a large caseload of surgical and medical cases. The role requires a vet confident in all routine general practice (GP) surgery.

The practice features ultrasound and K‑Laser facilities.

You will be part of a highly experienced team with multiple registered veterinary nurses and support colleagues, and a part‑time senior vet. A dedicated regional manager and a regional head vet provide clinical and managerial support.

The role includes a 1:4 Saturday rotation, a 1:8 Wanstead Hospital Sunday rotation, 1–2 bank holidays per year, and inclusion in the last‑resort on‑call rotation.

Onboarding

During an initial induction period you will spend a day in hospital to meet the team and become familiar with the surroundings.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examine all pets presented and make management and treatment recommendations based on best practice, evidence, and GVG protocols.
  • Perform GP surgery on cases as appropriate and within personal competence and limitations of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure pets’ histories are comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Refer cases in a timely manner when unable to undertake a case, first to a GVG Hospital.
  • Help maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
