Job description

Veterinary Surgeon
Basildon Pitsea

We are a 24-hour RCVS-accredited small animal hospital, located just 30 minutes by train from London, with direct transport links to Southend and Stansted airports. We’re also just a 25-minute drive from the seaside.

Our large team consists of 14 vets, including surgical and medical certificate holders. Some are currently pursuing certificates in surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, exotics and medicine. Our highly skilled nursing team includes many Schedule 3 and imaging-trained professionals, as well as several with post-graduate certificates. In addition, we have a Hydrotherapist, a Physiotherapist, and 10 Client Care Advisers.

Our state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities include a CT scanner, and we’ve recently expanded our services to offer MRI, Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy, and rehabilitation. We provide gold-standard inpatient care, along with first opinion small animal services and outpatient services such as emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, CT/MRI imaging, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, and laser therapy.

What We Are Looking For:

We are seeking an experienced vet with a surgical bias, who thrives in a vibrant, forward-thinking environment and is committed to clinical excellence. An interest in laparoscopic surgery is beneficial but not essential. You should be a competent surgeon, able to perform standard emergency procedures, and manage complex medical cases.

We will offer you a great work-life balance with a 4-day week and 1 in 4 weekends. You will work a 40-hour rota with no out-of-hours duties, plus a minimal on-call rota (about 3-4 times a year).

We are flexible and happy to consider part time applicants; however, you must be able to work 1 in 4 weekends.

We can offer you:
  1. An attractive salary of up to £70,000 (Dependant on experience/full time equivalent)
  2. A generous CPD allowance (Plus funding towards certificates)
  3. A supportive management structure
  4. 5.6 weeks initial holiday, rising to 6.6 weeks after 2 years’ service!
  5. Access to private health insurance
  6. A contributory pension scheme
  7. In-house career development opportunity
  8. Paid membership fees (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
  9. We are an accredited sponsor and can issue certificates of sponsorship for Tier 2 (General) visas to suitable applicants
  10. Access to the reward hub including wellbeing support and pastoral care
  11. Cycle to work scheme
  12. 20% discount at Vets for Pets, Pets at Home and the Groom Room
  13. Access to Colleague Assistance Programmes - Retail Trust, Port of Call and MHFA
