Job summary

Dogs Trust in Penrith is seeking a registered Veterinary Nurse to join our veterinary team at the rehoming centre, offering a rewarding role with excellent work-life balance. You will provide high standards of veterinary care, support routine procedures, assist with transfers to local veterinary practice, and help uphold Dogs Trust care protocols.

A full induction is provided and driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Registered Veterinary Nurse with valid UK registration.
• Experience in dog welfare or rehoming/charity setting desirable.
• Full, clean UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Work with the rehoming centre team to provide veterinary care to our dogs.
• Involve in routine veterinary tasks, maintain clinical protocols, assist with transfers to/from the local veterinary surgery and provide post-surgery care.
• Provide veterinary guidance to the centre staff and offer informal training to ensure protocols are followed.

Veterinary Nurse (18.75 hours per week)

We are seeking a registered Vet Nurse to join the Veterinary Team based in our rehoming centre.

What does this role do?

As Vet Nurse, you will:

• work closely with the Dogs Trust rehoming centre team to help provide excellent veterinary care and welfare to our dogs,
• be involved with routine veterinary care, maintaining clinical protocols, assisting with the transfer of dogs to/from the local veterinary surgery and providing post-surgery care,
• be a point of contact regarding veterinary assistance for the centre team, helping to ensure that protocols are adhered to by providing informal, occasional training to staff.

Could this be you?

To be successful in this role you will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with an appreciation of handling dogs in accordance with Dogs Trust guidelines, using positive reinforcement techniques. Experience of working in a rehoming/charity establishment would be desirable, but a full induction is provided. You will be able to show empathy and understanding towards both dogs and people and be committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care and customer service. You will also need a full, clean UK driving licence.

What does this team do?

The Rehoming department is responsible for helping as many dogs as possible find their forever homes, whether they are cared for in our network of Rehoming Centres, in a foster home or by their current owner using the Homestay scheme. We strive to achieve excellence in our rehoming processes and to ensure the highest standards of veterinary and behaviour care through our highly skilled teams.

Interviews will be provisionally booked for WC 11th November 2026 at our Penrith Rehoming Centre.
