Job description

Clinical Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Permanent | Full-time | South Wales | Up to £39,000 DOE
Lead from the front in a hands-on nursing role that combines excellent patient care, team development and clinical quality improvement.
The opportunity

An established small-animal veterinary organisation in South Wales is looking for an experienced RVN to take clinical ownership during allocated shifts. You will remain actively involved in patient care while supporting colleagues, coordinating workflow and helping the wider clinical team maintain consistently high standards.

This position would suit an existing Clinical Lead RVN, Senior RVN, Head Veterinary Nurse, Head RVN or Nurse Team Leader, as well as an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse ready to take the next step in leadership.

What you’ll be doing
  • Act as the senior nursing point of contact during allocated shifts and coordinate activity across clinical areas.
  • Maintain oversight of caseloads, patient allocation, staffing resources and changing clinical priorities.
  • Deliver hands-on nursing care and support the safe management of emergency and critical cases.
  • Promote accurate care plans, clear clinical records and effective patient admission, monitoring and discharge.
  • Coach and mentor RVNs, student nurses and patient care assistants, supporting induction and competency development.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and support teams to maintain clear communication and continuity of care.
  • Champion infection prevention, medicines management, health and safety, and professional nursing standards.
  • Contribute to clinical audits, incident reviews, quality-improvement projects and the development of practical protocols.
What we’re looking for
  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse with strong, current clinical experience.
  • Previous experience as a Clinical Lead, Senior RVN, Head RVN or in a comparable supervisory capacity.
  • A calm and organised approach, with the confidence to prioritise, make decisions and escalation concerns appropriately.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and relationship-building skills.
  • A positive leadership style and genuine commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Desirable: clinical coach status, an advanced nursing certificate, quality-improvement experience or hospital/referral exposure.
What the role offers
  • Salary of up to £39,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • 38 hours across four days per week, with shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 7:00pm.
  • No weekend rota and no out-of-hours requirement.
  • 6.6 weeks' annual leave, an additional birthday day off and further leave linked to length of service.
  • £550 CPD allowance plus 24 hours' paid CPD leave, with structured nursing leadership pathways and ongoing development.
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid, pension scheme and discounted veterinary care.
  • Private medical insurance, healthcare cash plan, wellbeing support and enhanced family-friendly policies.
  • Cycle to Work and Green Cars salary-sacrifice schemes, plus retailer discounts and cashback.
