School of Veterinary Medicine Biosciences

The first new School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland for 150 years.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can provide excellence in teaching and research to contribute to the school’s BVSci programme, as well as allied health programmes.

The candidate will have an extensive knowledge of one or more Public Health disciplines, such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), food safety, and zoonotic disease emergence, to support veterinary science teaching through lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical classes.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in working in One Health across any of the elements of the human-animal-environment interface. Expertise in veterinary science related public health work is desirable. You will develop and deliver high quality teaching and scholarly outcomes as a member of the wider veterinary medicine teaching and research team.

Additional roles may include the development of One Health policies and strategies to link human and animal health surveillance.

It is expected that lecturers will have experience of scholarly and stakeholder/sector engagement activities evidenced through impactful publications and other outputs. Evidence of engagement could relate to a variety of sectors, such as public health, animal health, ecology, or wildlife management, but should demonstrate the implementation of a One Health approach to prevent, limit, or contain a disease or issue of One Health concern. The successful candidate will be based at SRUC’s Aberdeen Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

There are a variety academic routes from postgraduate to post-doctorate level such as an MSc, MVM, or PhD in an animal or veterinary-related discipline that may provide suitable qualification for this role. Evidence of professional development achievements in relation to teaching and/or research is also expected. Appointment as Veterinary Lecturer is dependent on possession of a Veterinary degree and RCVS membership.
