Job summary

Vets Now Manchester is offering a 12-month Discipline-Specific Internship (DSI) in Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will work under an ECViM-CA specialist and an Advanced Practitioner in small animal medicine and cardiology, with opportunities for primary case responsibility.

The internship supports learning in internal medicine, with structured mentorship, case discussions, and involvement in clinical research. Visa/work eligibility and progression toward residency are considered.

Qualifications

• Veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS.
• Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship may be available).

• At least two years of experience working in small animal practice; rotating internship desirable.

Discipline-Specific Internship Internal Medicine

Location: Vets Now Specialist Referrals, Manchester

Company Overview

Vets Now Manchester is a multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital offering specialist-led services in ECC, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic surgery, as well as cardiology and imaging supported by advanced practitioners. The hospital is a 24/7 centre providing an out-of-hours service for neighbouring practices.

Role Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for our Internal Medicine Discipline-Specific Internship (DSI) starting on the 05th April 2027.

This 12-month training position offers:

• Twelve months of supported structured learning in small animal medicine within a friendly medicine team.
• Close supervision and mentorship from an ECVIM-CA specialist in internal medicine and an experienced RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in small animal medicine and cardiology.
• The chance to gain hands-on case involvement, with opportunities for primary case responsibility.

This internship is ideal for candidates pursuing a residency, working towards a certificate, or wishing to strengthen their knowledge and skills in internal medicine.

As this is a new position within the hospital we plan to adapt the programme to suit the successful applicant’s goals and experience, whether that be as stepping stone to apply for an ECVIM-CA residency, completion of a certificate in medicine or other.

Key Responsibilities

As a DSI Intern, you will:

Requirements

To be eligible, you must have:

• A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS.
• Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship may be available and will need to be discussed).
• Strong communication and English language skills (formal certification such as IELTS or TOEFL is desirable).
• At least two years of experience working in small animal practice (a rotating internship is desirable but not essential).
• A genuine interest in small animal Internal Medicine.
• High clinical standards, attention to detail, and professional integrity.
• A proactive and collaborative attitude, with a commitment to patient and client care.
