Job summary

Vets Now Manchester is seeking a motivated candidate for a 12-month Internal Medicine Discipline-Specific Internship (DSI) starting 05 April 2027. The role offers structured learning in small animal medicine under experienced supervision.

You will work with ECVIM-CA specialists and an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in internal medicine and cardiology, with opportunities for case involvement, mentorship, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• RCVS‑recognised veterinary degree required.
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS.
• Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship may be available).
• Two years of experience in small animal practice preferred.
• Interest in small animal Internal Medicine.
• High clinical standards, attention to detail and professional integrity.

Responsibilities

• Work with specialists to investigate and manage a wide variety of Internal Medicine cases.
• Participate in case planning, diagnosis, treatment and record keeping.

Job description

Vets Now Manchester is a multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital offering specialist-led services in ECC, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic surgery, as well as cardiology and imaging supported by advanced practitioners. The hospital is a 24/7 centre providing an out-of-hours service for neighbouring practices.

Role Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for our Internal Medicine Discipline-Specific Internship (DSI) starting on the 05th April 2027.

This 12-month Training Position Offers

• Twelve months of supported structured learning in small animal medicine within a friendly medicine team.
• Close supervision and mentorship from an ECVIM-CA specialist in internal medicine and an experienced RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in small animal medicine and cardiology.
• The chance to gain hands-on case involvement, with opportunities for primary case responsibility.

This internship is ideal for candidates pursuing a residency, working towards a certificate, or wishing to strengthen their knowledge and skills in internal medicine.

As this is a new position within the hospital we plan to adapt the programme to suit the successful applicant’s goals and experience, whether that be as stepping stone to apply for an ECVIM-CA residency, completion of a certificate in medicine or other.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the RCVS.
• Eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship may be available and will need to be discussed).
• Strong communication and English language skills (formal certification such as IELTS or TOEFL is desirable).
• At least two years of experience working in small animal practice (a rotating internship is desirable but not essential).
• A genuine interest in small animal Internal Medicine.
• High clinical standards, attention to detail, and professional integrity.
• A proactive and collaborative attitude, with a commitment to patient and client care.

• Internal Medicine: Led by an ECVIM-CA specialists alongside an experienced RCVS recognised advanced partitioner in small animal medicine and cardiology with access to advanced imaging and endoscopy. All supported by an experienced nursing team led by a VTS holder.
