Job summary

Subsea7 is seeking a Vessel Superintendent for our Offshore Delivery Team in Westhill, Aberdeen. The role is full-time and permanent, predominantly office-based with potential overseas travel to support our globally deployable fleet.

The successful candidate will apply engineering and management skills to keep assets safe, compliant, and highly available, while reinforcing HSEQ practices and coordinating with regional clients and vessel crews.

Qualifications

  • Extensive offshore experience or onshore technical management of marine vessels.
  • Chief Engineer Unlimited CoC with substantial sea-going experience.
  • Knowledge of IMO, Class, Flag State, ISM and related regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Master and Chief Engineer to execute IMO, Class, Flag and ISM responsibilities.
  • Build and maintain a strong safety culture aboard vessels.
  • Prepare and present technical, financial and safety reviews.
  • Ensure vessels remain within Class and Flag State requirements.
  • Oversee maintenance planning including dry docking and Capex works.
  • Organise engineering support for capacity growth CAPEX.
  • Maintain marine crew and technical staff cost-effectively.
  • Conduct Annual Performance Reviews of Captain and Chief Engineer.
  • Monitor spares inventory and budget adherence.

Subsea7 has an exciting opportunity for a Vessel Superintendent to work within our Offshore Delivery Team on a full-time, permanent basis, located in our Westhill, Aberdeen office. Whilst this will be a predominantly office-based role, there will be potential overseas travel as and when required working in support of our globally deployable Fleet.


This is a great opportunity for the chosen candidate to practise their engineering and management skills in a varied and challenging environment where no two days are the same. The Vessel Superintendent is accountable for maintaining the assets in safe condition and in compliance with specification and Class, ensuring maximized availability, reliability and efficiency of the vessel(s), permanent equipment and crew, while adhering to the approved budgets The Vessel Superintendent will reinforce HSEQ behaviour on the vessel.


The role forms part of the Vessels & Equipment group reporting to the Fleet Manager. The Vessel Master and Chief Engineer will report to the Vessel Superintendent. The role will involve building and maintaining close working relationships with Regional Clients, Vessel Owners (where applicable), Crew Management Companies and internal Project Teams.


What will you be doing?

The role of Vessel Superintendent will be highly varied, but some of the key responsibilities include:



  • Partnering with Master and Chief Engineer to execute IMO, Class, Flag and ISM responsibilities which lie with Offshore Resources (OR)

  • To build and maintain a strong safety culture and sound safety practices aboard the ships, and, when requested, to align with, back, and support all HSEQ activities led by the Region.

  • Prepare and present technical, financial and safety reviews.

  • Ensure the vessel remains within ‘Class’ and Flag state requirements.

  • Ensure the vessel(s) under your management comply with relevant industry standards and guidance, in particular IMCA.

  • Ensure that preventive and corrective maintenance are scheduled in close coordination with the Regions Operations Teams for minimum impact on Projects and are performed within budget and in accordance with the applicable requirements and the standards set by OD.

  • To manage the planning, preparation and execution of major works, such as dry docking and Capex works, ensuring timely definition of scope of work and schedule.

  • To regularly participate in the improvement of the maintenance procedures, standards and policies.

  • Ensure that Ships inventory for spares and consumables is managed effectively, utilising critical spare part assessment and operating within budgetary requirements

  • Monitor and report on catering performance, together with the Master.

  • To prepare, propose and monitor a budget for the maintenance and repair of assigned assets and related consumables as well as for any required onshore support.

  • To organise engineering and technical support required for the technical definition of the capacity growth CAPEX as well as costing of their execution.

  • With the support of Offshore staffing, permanently maintain an adequate and cost-effective marine crew and team of technicians.

  • Perform Annual Performance Reviews of the Captain and Chief Engineer, assisting with development aims.


What experience would we like you to have?


  • Extensive relevant offshore experience or onshore technical management of marine vessels, with significant experience in a senior engineering capacity.

  • Chief Engineer Unlimited CoC, with substantial sea-going experience

  • Extensive knowledge of vessel engineering systems, operational capabilities, and performance limitations.

  • In-depth knowledge of IMO, Class, Flag State, ISM, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrable extensive knowledge in the engineering, maintenance, and operational management of offshore construction and support vessels.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and engineering oversight across a diverse vessel fleet.

  • Demonstrable effective leadership, managerial, and organisational skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.

  • Skilled in managing stakeholders and developing strong working relationships at every level.

  • Well-developed commercial awareness and experience supporting operational decision-making, risk management, and asset performance.

  • Clear and professional communicator able to collaborate well with senior managers, clients, vessel crews, and offshore personnel.

  • Fully fluent in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to produce high-quality technical reports and documentation.

  • Demonstrable commitment to safety, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
