Job summary

London Hire Limited in Erith seeks a hands-on Vehicle Prep & Yard Operative to support the London hire fleet. You will prepare vehicles for delivery, inspect new vehicles on arrival, and carry out general fleet duties to keep the fleet in top condition.

Duties include ensuring proper documentation, cleaning vehicles, checking safety equipment, recording movements in the daily diary, and coordinating with contractors to maintain site safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles for delivery to customers with complete documentation and clean condition.
• Check vehicle against New Vehicle Acceptance Sheet for specification.
• Inspect vehicles being returned from hire.
• Record all vehicle movements in the daily diary and complete necessary documentation.
• Perform minor repairs and check fluids/tyres.
• Clean vehicles prior to delivery.
• Liaise with visiting contractors and ensure site safety rules are followed.
• Arrange for defective equipment to be repaired.
• Maintain equipment in line with health and safety rules.

Description

The main purpose of this role is the preparation of vehicles for London hire, inspection of new vehicles to site and general duties in connection with the London Hire Fleet of vehicles.

Department: Rental

Location: Erith

Compensation: £13.85 / hour

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Preparing vehicles for delivery to customers, ensuring that:
  • Correct documentation is available,
  • Vehicle is in a clean condition (internally and externally).
  • Vehicle is checked for any defects
  • Check correct safety equipment and seating is installed
  • Carry out regular manual handling duties, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling moving equipment, and cleaning materials in a safe manner and in accordance with company procedures and manual handling guidelines.
• 2. Checking in new vehicles:
  • Check that the correct documentation has been supplied with the vehicle.
  • Check the vehicle complies with the specification shown on the "New Vehicle Acceptance Sheet".
• 3. Checking in and inspect vehicles being returned from hire.
• 4. Ensure all vehicles that are collected or returned by the customers are recorded in the daily diary and documentation is completed.
  • Working to set timeframes and targets to ensure vehicles are ready in time for customer collection.
• 5. Carry out minor repairs and visual checks:
  • Fluid levels
  • Tyres
• 6. Clean vehicles as required prior to delivery.
• 7. Liaise with visiting contractors, ensuring that they are aware of the site safety rules.
• 8. Arrange for defective equipment to be repaired.
• 9. Ensure all equipment issued to you is used and maintained in accordance with instructions, Health and Safety rules and regulations.

Vehicle Yard

• Carry out regular inspections of the yard and ensure that it is tidied daily, and all debris is removed.
• Report any defects or health and safety issues in the vehicle yard to a Manager, completing a site defect report as required
• Carry out daily check of equipment to ensure that it is working correctly, log any defects and arrange for repairs where necessary.
• Compile a weekly yard list of vehicles for the Yard Supervisor.
