Transport Services is responsible for all aspects of transport and related services including procurement, maintenance, and disposal on behalf of the Council. The fleet size is approximately 800 vehicles, ranging from small light commercials to large heavy goods refuse vehicles. Operations are based across three vehicle repair facilities in Kirklees.
Your role involves working as part of a team, contributing to maintaining Kirklees Council's vehicle fleet at an exemplary standard. You will receive training to develop your knowledge and skills to become a fully qualified Vehicle Technician, capable of working on all fleet vehicles. Duties include training to perform tasks such as HGV Preventative Maintenance Inspections, scheduled servicing, auxiliary equipment repairs, preparing vehicles for periodic tests, attending breakdowns, and maintaining Electric and Hybrid Vehicles. You will work in accordance with health and safety standards and report to a Workshop Team Leader and the Transport Workshops Manager.
The workshop environment is dynamic, with ongoing technological and design innovations. You will be expected to engage in continuous professional development and adapt to new technologies.
This role requires performing vehicle inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs in line with DVSA standards. Work locations include George Street Depot in Dewsbury and occasionally other workshops in Huddersfield.
