Job summary

Alstom UK in Derby seeks a Paint Sprayer / Vehicle Paint Technician for rolling stock finishing. You will deliver high-quality paint finishing on large rail vehicles, including surface prep, priming, spraying, and final finishing. Work in a safety-critical production setting with strict quality standards and detailed instructions.

Candidates from engineering or vehicle finishing backgrounds are welcome. Role involves full shift-based work in a busy production environment with pay structure

Qualifications

• Previous experience in paint finishing or spray painting.
• Ability to prepare, prime, and finish large surface areas.
• Experience working from technical instructions and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and quality control.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
• Experience in rail, automotive, marine, aviation, HGV, or plant industries.
• Water-based paint system experience.
• Knowledge of 2K systems and Hydro topcoats.
• Ability to mix and match paint colours accurately.
• Experience with pressure pot spray systems.
• Experience working with aluminium components.

Responsibilities

• Carry out full surface preparation on rolling stock (sanding, keying, masking, filling).
• Apply primer and topcoat systems, including 2K paint systems.
• Spray large vehicle surfaces to a high-quality standard.
• Complete finishing work including polishing, defect removal, and snagging.
• Carry out touch-ups and rectification work on completed vehicles.
• Apply detailed livery designs accurately to specification.
• Work from technical drawings, written instructions, and job sheets.
• Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and quality.
• Work effectively as part of a fast-paced production team.

Paint Sprayer / Vehicle Paint Technician - Rolling Stock

Rolling Stock Maintenance / Vehicle Finishing Team
Client: Alstom UK - Derby
Large-scale rail manufacturing and refurbishment environment

Voyager Refurbishment project and the follow-on CL222 Refurbishment project until September 2028

Role Purpose

This role involves delivering high-quality paint finishing on large rail vehicles, including full surface preparation, priming, spraying, and final finishing. You will be working in a safety-critical, physically demanding production environment where precision and finish quality are essential.

Candidates from a range of engineering and vehicle finishing backgrounds will be considered.

Location & Working Pattern

• Shifts: Days
• Minimum 45 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out full surface preparation on rolling stock (sanding, keying, masking, filling)
• Apply primer and topcoat systems, including 2K paint systems
• Spray large vehicle surfaces to a high-quality standard
• Complete finishing work including polishing, defect removal, and snagging
• Carry out touch-ups and rectification work on completed vehicles
• Apply detailed livery designs accurately to specification
• Work from technical drawings, written instructions, and job sheets
• Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and quality
• Work effectively as part of a fast-paced production team

Shifts, Salary & BenefitsNote: The shift is a single continuous day shift with blended pay rates applied across early and late hours within the shift.* Days, Monday - Thursday (45 hr week total)
* 06.00 - 16.30
* Friday 06.00 - 11.00
o 06:00-14:00: £19.57 PAYE / £24.94 - £26.17 Umbrella
o 14:00-16:30: £24.06 PAYE / £26.67 - £28.09 Umbrella

• £60 per day net subsistence allowance available to candidates who live 55+ miles from site

• Previous experience in paint finishing or spray painting
• Ability to prepare, prime, and finish large surface areas
• Experience working from technical instructions and specifications
