Job description

Are you a skilled and reliable Vehicle Mechanic seeking a new opportunity? Come and join us and be part of the Operations Support Transport Team.

Based at our Swansea garage you will be working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, playing a vital role in maintaining the vehicle fleet.

You will work on a variety of specialist vehicles ensuring they are fit for purpose and ready to support our engineers in the field.

Main Responsibilities

Our Transport teams ensure National Grids fleet operation is on the road 24/7, 365 days a year. Helping to ensure the vehicle fleet is maintained with minimum downtime to enable the fleet to be operated in the most cost effective and efficient way possible.

  • Day to day management of own workload including liaising with customers.
  • Routine maintenance of all vehicles, including heavy goods.
  • Repairing and maintaining plant trailers and ancillary equipment.
  • Arranging repairs and maintenance with contracted suppliers.
  • Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual testing.
  • Road testing and diagnosing vehicle faults.
  • Ordering of parts as required for the maintenance and repair of the Transport fleet.
Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a qualified and time served Vehicle Technician and hold the appropriate NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification. A full driving license is essential for this role and holding a valid LGV (Class C) driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential as training can be provided to the successful candidate.

Alongside a good approach to customer service you will have the ability to work well by yourself as well as working within a team environment. You will be able to consistently maintain high quality standards and work within given timescales.

There may be occasions where you will be working at other local depots, therefore a flexible approach is required.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
