The role
As a Vehicle Mechanic you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Carrying out duties to Military variants, occasional civilian vehicles, and other mechanical equipment.

Day to day, you'll carry out work to the required standard and specification as detailed on the James or SAP workflows card in accordance with Army Equipment Support Publications, customer requirements, current regulations, local instructions, process plans, and other technical publications. Your tasks will include:

  • Diagnosis, repair, inspection, and assessment of vehicles and associated mechanical or electrical equipment in line with skills and competency
  • Undertake diagnostic duties on equipment and carry out road testing
  • Ensure all transactions are carried out in accordance with current processes and that work completed and time taken to complete is submitted daily,
  • The completion of equipment documentation and test certificates or reports when required and to required standards,
  • Ensuring that stores and equipment issued to each job are used for their correct purpose and any unused new faulty parts are returned and reported to supervisor


This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time. All tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment provided.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Leuchars. Typically working Monday – Thursday 8 hours per day and 5 hours on Friday. No Mandatory overtime, nightshift or weekend work.

Essential experience of the Vehicle Mechanic:

  • HGV experience
  • Holds valid UK driving licence


Qualifications for the Vehicle Mechanic:

  • Educated to Level 3 in Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) National Vocational Qualification (NVQ/SVQ) in Motor Mechanics (Light or Heavy) or EAL Level 3 NVQor SVQ Extended
