Job summary

Babcock is hiring a Vehicle Mechanic in Belfast, County Antrim. The role involves diagnosing, servicing, repairing and maintaining a range of military and civilian vehicles on site, with a 37-hour week and opportunities for overtime.

You will work with supplied tools and equipment, supporting long-term career development in a defence and engineering environment. Security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• NVQ/C&G/BTEC Level 3 qualifications in vehicle maintenance and motor vehicle technology are required.
• Experience diagnosing, inspecting and assessing vehicle faults is essential.
• Ability to complete vehicle documentation and test certification accurately.
• Experience in both civilian and military vehicle contexts is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, repair and maintain military and civilian vehicles.
• Conduct inspections and assess vehicle condition and performance.
• Carry out mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding activities.
• Complete testing, road testing and vehicle certification documentation.
• Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to required standards.

Day-to-day

• Diagnose, service, repair and maintain military and civilian vehicles
• Conduct inspections and assess vehicle condition and performance
• Carry out mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding activities
• Complete testing, road testing and vehicle certification documentation
• Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to required standards

No two days are the same. You'll work on a diverse range of vehicles while developing specialist skills and gaining experience rarely found elsewhere in the automotive industry.

What You'll Need

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally hold one of the following:

• NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
• City & Guilds Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology
• BTEC Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology
• Class 1 REME Vehicle Mechanic qualification

You will also have:

• Previous experience as a Vehicle Mechanic, Automotive Technician or Mechanical Technician
• Experience diagnosing, inspecting and assessing vehicle faults
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair practices
• The ability to complete vehicle documentation and test certification accurately

Experience gained within dealerships, commercial vehicle workshops, local garages, fleet maintenance environments, military vehicle maintenance engineering backgrounds is highly desirable.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
