Qualifications

  • Fully skilled with applicable licenses/vocational training.
  • Experience in commercial vehicle repairs.
  • Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.

Responsibilities

  • Completing signed service and inspection records.
  • Preparing vehicles for annual MOT testing.
  • Performing ad-hoc vehicle repairs and investigations.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join the Engineering Team as a fully skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician based at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Basildon.

As a Vehicle Technician, you will maintain FedEx Assets' safety and reliability by performing service and maintenance of the company fleet of vehicles and trailers in line with planned maintenance schedules, ensuring that the fleet is safe, legal, and fit for duties.

Working hours:

40 per week

Shift:

Rotating shifts Monday to Friday 06:00am to 14:30pm and 14:00pm to 22:30pm.

Salary:

Base pay £20.77 per hour. Premia paid for hours worked between 7pm - 10pm (£2.23 per hour), and 10pm - 6am (£2.70 per hour).

Responsibilities include:
  1. Completing signed service and inspection records.
  2. Completing defect reports and associated paperwork to comply with legal requirements.
  3. Preparing vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing to ensure first-time pass.
  4. Performing ad-hoc vehicle repairs, investigating, and rectifying vehicle defects.
  5. Ensuring the safe and effective use of all tools, plant, and ancillary equipment.
  6. Maintaining good housekeeping standards and carrying out other duties as deemed reasonable by management.
Qualifications and experience required:
  1. Fully skilled with applicable licenses/vocational training (e.g., LGV C&E license (class one)).
  2. City & Guilds parts 1 & 2 or equivalent in commercial vehicle repairs.
  3. Knowledge of automotive equipment and testing/troubleshooting tools.
  4. Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
  5. Experience with welding and basic D.C. electrical troubleshooting skills.
  6. Valid driving license.
  7. Previous experience in a similar role.
